Results from Plain Summer Tourney

Who would have thought after 6 inches of rain on Thursday ( and over 15 inches  of  rain in one week) that we could still play softball at all in Plain (provided you could even get here).

However, with a lot of effort and some sun and wind on Saturday we were able to get one ball field ready and still get the u-18 bracket of the tourney played( the u-14 bracket had to be canceled with only one diamond to play on- the diamond downtown was flooded out).

Wow! We saw some great softball played.

In game one River Valley scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th to beat Sauk Prairie 9-8. Then Belmont scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to beat Dodgeville 2-1. Game 3 saw Belmont defeat Sauk Prairie 11-1, and River Valley defeat Dodgeville 7-1 in game 4. That set up a great game between River Valley and Belmont.

Belmont scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings but River Valley scored one in the 6th and one in the 7th and had the bases loaded when base running errors let Belmont turn a double play as the tying run was thrown out at the plate.

In game 6 Dodgeville edged Sauk Prairie 6-3. So Belmont wins the tourney at 3-0, River Valley is second at 2-1, Dodgeville third at 1-2 and Sauk Prarie Fourth at 0-3. Till next year,

Thanks,

Nick Luther
