Here s another Fastpitch Bulletin!

This one is Volume 7, Number 59. That s four more Fastpitch Bulletins that the record 55 I typed a few years ago. So, I m in uncharted territory and finding things to type about is sometimes the toughest part of being a writer of any kind.

Here is something that I received in my inbox at school today that all softball coaches should have received. The WIAA is offering softball coaches and athletic directors a chance to vote on the softball season start/finish dates for 2010. The reason is that the girl s WIAA basketball tournament series takes that sport well into March and apparently some coaches on the Coaches Advisory committee see that as an issue. So, in an unprecedented move, the WIAA is making the offer to coaches and Athletic Directors across the state. It s one vote per school and both the softball coach and the athletic director must sign the ballot.

Both signatures on the ballot is a great idea in my humble opinion as well. Too many times coaches have no clue as to what is going on and vice versa. If you didn t get the information from your AD then you had better talk to that person. I think the voting deadline is in about two weeks (maybe the 23rd of May).

If the season is changed the WIAA State softball tournament would not end until June 17th. I think that s about the date it ended in 1998 as well and it seemed like we d been going at it a long time. Of course, who cares about that if your team is one of the 20 teams that advance to Goodman Diamond in Madison.

My good friend Steve Schmikla forwarded the Northern Sun Conference press release to me tonight which listed the 2008 All Conference. The Badger state is certainly well represented on that list. Here are the former Wisconsin standouts: First Team – Abby Brundidge DP (Nekoosa and Assumption); Mollie Bjelland OF (Grantsburg); Kristen Fossell P (Oak Creek); Chelsea Rosenow OF (Chippewa Falls); Amanda Wilhelm 2B (LaCrosse) Honorable Mention: Stephanie Schmikla P (McFarland); Terra Halron (Green Bay).

Recent Highlights: Katie Boyle of Thomas More fanned 15 in a 3-0 win over Cudahy on Tuesday ----- Rachel Bublitz of Columbus fanned 15 in a 6-1 win over Lake Mills on Tuesday ---- Natalia Chapman of Pardeeville twirled a perfect game against Dodgeland last week --- Cari Mergen of River Ridge fanned 14 in a 4-0 win over Wauzeka/Steuben on Tuesday --- A pinch hit RBI single by Shauna Messing scored Alicia Dircks for the victory as Thorp nipped Neillsville 1-0 on Tuesday --- Madeline Dugolenski, Poynette catcher was 2x2 on Tuesday vs Lodi and raised her season BA to .529, she has a slugging percentage of .923 (48 total bases and 52 at bats) and OBA of .561 ---

Eau Claire Memorial knocked off second ranked Chippewa Falls 5-4 on Tuesday. There were 22 hits in the game and Chippewa Falls committed four errors. Chippewa Falls on the other game of the twinbill. Catholic Central and Williams Bay had a great game on Tuesday with Catholic Central winning, 5-4. Arcadia nipped Westby 2-1 in the Coulee Conference on Tuesday.

In a South Central Conference game last week an umpire called an infield fly rule when there were runners on second and third. Who needs to know the rules in the situation?

That s about it for tonight!

Keep it Rising!

Bob
