It s 10:24 on a Wednesday.

Hello Again Everyone – Another nice day but the wrong day of the week to be nice.

This is the 54th Bulletin I've written. The all-time high for me was 55 so I'm close to a record performance.

Pepin is looking for one JV team to play in a tourney on May 10th. Contact Matt Bellerive to get in. He promises hot dogs and beverages to the coach who brings their JV team there to play, all condiments included.

My friend Colleen Joyce, former Madison Memorial standout and daughter of Spartan Head Coach Patrick Joyce plays for Edgewood College and ha a pretty successful week lately. Take a look at this:

MADISON, Wis. (Apr. 29, 2008) -- Colleen Joyce was named Northern Athletics Conference Student Athlete of the Week for her performance in the team s eight games last week. Colleen Joyce was named athlete of the week after hitting .577 for the week, driving in 13 runs as the team compiled a 5-3 record for the week. Joyce had a hit in all eight games for the Eagles, extending her hitting streak to 12 games. Joyce hit a walk-off three run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs against Concordia Wisconsin to win the game 9-8 for the Eagles, capping off a five-run seventh inning rally. The win over Concordia punched the Eagles ticket for the conference tournament, snagging the sixth and final spot. Earlier in the week Joyce recorded the team s only hit in a 2-0 loss at the hands of Marian College.  Joyce becomes the third Edgewood College softball player to win the award this season.

It is the second straight week an Edgewood Eagle player has received this award with Jenna Ryan winning the award last week for her performance in the circle. Ryan is the daughter of former Waunakee coach Steve Ryan.

Things are going pretty well for me with the WSN move but I m really disappointed in the number of coaches who have not gotten accounts and access to the website where they can post their schedules, rosters and game reports. So, I ve started accepting offers from coaches in the conference across the Badger State who will take charge of their conference schools and upload schedules and rosters for other schools in their conferences and will upload scores too if we miss them. The entire website is really based upon coaches using it. When a game gets reported on the newspaper box score it automatically goes to several other pages on the site including the Reports Page, the Scoreboard Page, that team s page, the conference page and probably other places as well. Thanks to the coaches who came forward today to help out. It s certainly more than one person can tackle.

May 17th will be a day where you can watch some great softball in Stevens Point. SPASH will host Menomonie Falls, Verona and Chippewa Falls in a fastpitch invite. Mark your calendars and get there. You might even see a WSN guy from Poynette there.

Here is the stuff I really enjoy hearing about but this season has been so fragmented I don t think there have been many crazy, zany plays.

Read this:

Bob: We had this play happen on both the JV & Varsity games today. The umpire s calls were completly different. In both cases there was a runner on base. Batter bunts the ball, and drops the bat in fair territory. Ball rolls forward touching the bat. In the JV game the ball had enough forward velocity that it was pushing the bat towards the pitcher. Umpires call in this game: No Call.

In the other game, ball rolled towards the bat, ( I could not tell if there was contact from behind the screen) (Batter later said that it did touch) ball was played in fair teritory. Runner advanced safely, and batter reached first. Base Umpire called time and conferenced with plate umpire about the ball touching the bat in the field of play. Umpires ruling was: Foul Ball

In both cases the contact with the bat was after the bat was out of the batters hands, and after the batter was out of the box.

I believe that the correct call in both of these cases should have been: Dead Ball, Batters is out. Runner returned to base occupied at time of pitch.

The sender of this message is correct. Refer to Rule 5-1-1b on page 45 and also check the Dead Ball Tables on Page 47. Dead Ball table says Batter is out. Runners return

If a crazy/zany play takes place in your game takes place, please type it up and send it to me.

If it s a rule clarification you need, I ll take care of that either with my good friend John Peterson or the WIAA office (Marcy).

McFarland beat Waunakee this afternoon 8-3 in a Badger Conference cross-over game.

A decision on the Poynette Jamboree will be made no later than 9 am Friday. It may be made prior to that as well.

This from Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam -- Wayland played an all around strong game today as they beat Martin Luther with a score of 8-3.  Freshman Amanda Tramm led the offensive charge going 3 for 4 with 3 stolen bases.  Cassie McLeod was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 stolen base.  Samanatha Brodbeck went 2 for 3 and Sarah Janisewski was 2 for 4 with a double for the Big Red.  Amberly Ritchie also had a double and 1 stolen base while Katie Corbin added 2 RBI's and Mary Miller had an RBI for Wayland.  Wayland is now 4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference.   Martin Luther is now 5-5.

Southwestern beat Argyle today 8-0.

That s about it for tonight!

Have a great day!

Keep it Rising!

Bob
