Do it with enthusiasm!

Hello Everyone – We hear that phrase all the time but this particular softball season is making it tough for anyone to be enthused all the time.

For many teams it s a season that has seen more games postponed or cancelled than what have been played. Indoor practices in late April are hard to get enthused about. Hitting lite flite softballs in a gymnasium is not the same as trying to hit the slants of the opponent s pitchers.

Yet, staying enthused will be a key ingredient for everyone. Another ingredient will be the ability to play a lot of games in not very many days. The Division 2-3-4 regional series begins on May 15th. That gives us two weeks to get the regular season games in. The extended forecast for the weekend looks pretty wet as well.

No matter the weather, no matter how many games that get postponed or cancelled, the ones that do get played all are important and they deserve to be published and the highlights deserve to be mentioned. So, report the scores!

It snowed in many areas of the state today and at 2 in the afternoon the field sin Poynette were covered with that white manure again. Our administrator called our game off but by game time the temperature had risen to 42 and the fields were bare, a bit wet in the outfield but bare and our infields were actually in the greatest playing condition that they will ever be. But alas, Lakeside Lutheran was probably practicing in Lake Mills and our kids were practicing on our diamond instead of playing on it. Bus departure times etc. always play a roll in whether to play or call off.

I think another important thing to keep in mind is that this spring is not a typical one. At least it hasn t been typical as we have known things in this part of the world. Climatic changes might have something to do with the crazy weather but 2009 could be hot and dry and we ll quickly forget about this bizarre season.

I have a few time slots open and diamonds available for the Poynette Jamboree this weekend. If there are teams looking for games and a place to play, those time slots and diamonds might be the answer. Just contact me at faspich1@aol.com and I ll get on it.
