Hello Again Everyone – It was a great weekend! Too bad the great days fall on days when games can t be played.

I ve been going through the wissports.net website team by team and surely wish more schools would get their team schedules on the site so the score that get posted just from the papers show up on the team records. It would make things a lot easier come ranking time for the rankers.

There are still a couple of glitches that show up on the stats page of the site but the guys at the office are working on fixing them.

WHIP on the team pitching stats had me buffaloed. It stands for Walk and Hits allowed per inning pitched.

The Poynette Fastpitch Jamboree slate of games should be done by Wednesday. The real holdup is whether or not one or two of our venues are going to dry out by then. If they don t we may have to scramble to find other fields close by. The #1 diamond in Arlington had lots of water on it on Friday but two days of warm, sunny weather may have dried most of it up. I teach there tomorrow so I will check that out. The Poynette village park fields are also questionable, especially the large field.

The Portage Optimists Invite was a good day. Dodgeland and Menomonie each won two games while Lodi and Poynette went 0-2 and Portage and LaCrosse Logan went 1-1. I was quite impressed with the sophomore pitcher from Logan who tossed a two-hitter at us, fanned 13 and blasted a grand slam homer to make the score 8-1 at the time. She didn t pitch the game against Menomonie, however and they were beaten in that game.

I have posted a link to a great article by Dennis Semrau of the Capital Times. I would have liked to reprint the article on one of our feature pages but we couldn t get permission to do so, therefore the link is on the Opening Pitch Blog page of the website. Check it out!

Dennis, by the way is one of the Media Team members when we play the Wiffle Ball Challenge during the summer at my Wiffle Ball Stadium in my back yard. He pitched the inaugural game in 2006 for the Media All Starts in a game that wound up in an 18-18 tie.

Coaches that need wissports.net coach accounts should just contact me and I ll get you an account the same day.

There were some upsets on Friday and Saturday across the state so check out the Reports and Scoreboard pages of the website.

The updated rankings should be posted by Tuesday as well. There are new teams at the top of at least three of the four divisions of play. Racine Case, Southern Door and Oakfield now have the top spots in their divisions while McDonell held onto the top spot in Division 4. There still haven t been many games played to do rankings however.

The Ashwaubenon Invite is this Friday and Saturday and should provide some great games and great insight into who is really playing well. Check out the teams playing there on the forum page of the softball site. There is a post there that lists the teams invited and attending.

That s about it for tonight.

Keep it Rising!

Bob
