It s deep, going, going --- it s gone!

Hello again everyone – It s been hectic here tonight and I ve had some trouble staying organized with a lot on my mind. Some people would probably tell you I m not organized to begin with (you should see my organized chaos desk). I ll try my best to sort things out and get off a good bulletin for you.

Game score reports are different than they were when they were on The Fastpitch Chronicle. I liked being able to just scroll down through the games from any given day. I could stop and read any of the great reports that people like you sent in or I could just skim through the scores as I had them typed in red at the top of the game score report. I m going to talk to Nicholas about trying to do something like that on the new site. Many of you have e-mailed and said that your feelings are the same as mine. I ll see what I can do.

It s going to take some time to get things the way I like them (I hope I can get them that way).

Highland and Belmont played each other today. Belmont entered the game at 3-0 while Highland had not played a game at all. It was a Six Rivers West clash too and between the two schools that met in the 2006 state title game. Senior pitcher Laci Pustina of Highland is back to 100% as she scattered six hits, fanned 9 and went 3x4 at the plate to lead a 15-hit attack in a 9-0 win.

Madison Memorial switched sites and traveled to Janesville Craig and returned to Madison with a 13-0 win over Craig. Memorial rapped out 15 hits. The winner was Lacey Johnson who fanned 6.  The loser was Freeman with relief help from Whitaker. The leading hitters included: Umberger (MM) 4X5, Marquardt-Davis (MM) 3X3, Graf (MM) 2X2, Koykkar (MM) 2X5 – Umberger had two doubles and a triple for Memorial. Marquardt-Davis had a double for the winners.

Bonduel nipped Weyauwega-Fremont 2-0.

Beloit Turner beat Evansville 5-2 in Rock Valley action.

It was top ranked Kimberly and Claudia Harke taking down Neenah 8-0 as she fanned 14 in a one-hitter.

Appleton North 4, Appleton East 3 in 10 innings.

I was able to add a couple more head coach e-mails to the Bulletin lists tonight thanks to another coach in the northland. I m still working diligently on getting that list to 100%. I think my next move will be to offer them something in return.

My Poynette players are all wearing mouth guards and are getting accustomed to them. We had a pretty serious incident last year when one of seniors tumbled into second base when attempting to slide. In short it wasn t a very pretty slide attempt and she actually never made it to the base (she was tagged out of course). When she hit the dirt, her head was up and it snapped down and back up pretty quickly. She bit through her lower lip with her upper incisors and left her lip hanging there. It was not a pretty site and could have been avoided somewhat by wearing a mouth guard. She would have still had a sore lip from the mouth guard biting it but she would not have done what she did.

I spoke and typed long and hard for many, many years about metal cleats. That came to fruition. I believe that mouth guards are a great safety device for girls fastpitch softball while in the field and running the bases. A reporter was at our practice this afternoon taking pictures and noticed that they all had one in and commented on it. It s been interesting to see what colors they show up with and how they have been adjusting to them. They are tough to carry on a conversation while inserted. Tonight we were just teaching them to say – humma, humma, humma, and a let s go at the end. Or anything auctioneer type talk with a " let s go" at the end of the jibberish.

Speaking of metal cleats. The girls at Poynette noticed the difference between them and plastic cleats the very first night we were outside. I know there are still many who believe that it was not a good move but the rule is now allowing them. There won t be nearly as many kids slipping and falling due to hard, wet bases and home plates. Those metal cleats eliminate most of that.

Tonight s Play to call is :  There is a runner at first base when a ground ball is hit to right field. A throw to third beats the runner from first trying to make it to third. That runner stops and heads back to second base but in the process, the batter-runner rounds second and passes the lead runner. What is the proper call?

I have been busily getting the guys at the wissports office setting up coach accounts. You need a coach account on wissports.net in order to enter team and game information.

Answer to tonight s Play: The batter-runner should be called out immediately upon passing the lead runner.

That s about it for tonight. Have a great day! Enter your scores and please take the time to do the line score, winning pitcher, losing pitcher, leading hitters and type a game report that people will really be interested in and include your thoughts like you always did for me when I did this on The Fastpitch Chronicle website. People really thirst for great fastpitch stories and game reports.

I haven t really done much sorting out, but I did manage to get this bulletin out.

Keep it Rising!
