It s a high chopper up the middle!

Hello Again Everyone – If you are reading this it means the link I used worked or you found your way to the site and the bulletin on your own. At any rate – welcome aboard!

From now on, the bulletins will be linked to the WSN site. That was part of the deal that I agreed to. I ll continue to send you an e-mail every time I post a bulletin though. However, it would be a good idea to just go to the WSN softball site and browse around as there will be other stuff to read every day besides The Fastpitch Bulletins.

Today I received a great e-mail from a fan that follows the Northern Lakes Conference very closely. Today s Rhinelander paper previewed the Northern Lakes Conference as well as Crandon, Laona/Wabeno and Goodman/Pembine. Here are the links to those articles which are also posted on the Northern Lakes Pre-season outlooks on The Fastpitch Chronicle wesbsite. Once we start adding the preview stuff to the WSN site, they will be there too. In order they are 1) The Northern Lakes Preview 2) A look at Laona/Wabeno 3) a look at Crandon 4) a look at Goodman/Pembine.

I also received an e-mail today with some news about a former Ashland High School Player now playing at Northland College (coach Steve Wammer). Here is that news.

Karen Harnisch named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Player of the Week

Harnish played for Ashland s state tournament team in 2002 and is now a sophomore at Northland, playing shortstop. She recorded at least one hit in all but one of Northland s spring training games in Arizoan last week. In nine games Harnish was 13x33 (.394), tallying a home run, three doubles and seven RBI to go along with a .576 slugging percentage.

Speaking of Northland College, I have also learned that Kristen Zimmer (P/1B) of Laona/Wabeno will attend there next year and play softball for Steve Wammer and the Lumber Jills. You can read about her 2007 stats in the article linked above.

Former Aquinas High School players playing at the college level: Ainsley Klar – UW Eau Claire; Kelly Conway – UW Stout; Jodie Muth – Clarke College

I d wondered how one of my favorite high school pitchers had fared in college. Thanks to Nathan Vance at Oak Creek I found out. Here is what Kristen Fossell did at Winona State: Kristen Fossell: Oak Creek HS class of 2004.  At Oak Creek is was  All Suburban Female Student Athlete of the Year 2004; ; Two Time Wisconsin State Softball Gatorade Player of the Year 2003, 2004 ; Three-Time WFSCA All-state 2002, 2003, 2004; At Winona State University Academic Awards:  G.P.A. 3.97, Winona State University Dean's List 2004, 2005, 2006, 200; College Athletic Awards: Winona State Scholar Athlete Award 2005, 2006, 2007;  2nd Team Daktronics All-North Central Region 2007; NSIC All-Tournament 2007;  Honorable mention All-NSIC 2007 ; NSIC All Academic Award 2006, 2007 ; ESPN The Magazine Academic All District V Third Team 2006 ; ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V First Team 2007 ;Career  stats at Winona State University: W-L: 30-11; Games: 66; Complete Games: 26; Saves: 4;Shut Outs: 10;ERA: 2.3;Ks: 301 – She graduates in May with a Bachelor's in Science of Nursing Degree and will become a registered nurse in IL where her fiancée, former Oak Creek HS class of 2003 valedictorian, Erik Lampe currently works.  She looks forward to starting her married life in August and hopes to continue to play/teach the wonderful game of softball to future generations. She is truly an exemplary young lady in every sense of the word.

There is information now posted about the Rage Tourney coming up this summer. It s posted on the summer directory page of The Fastpitch Chronicle webstite.

You can also read season previews now about Assumption High School in Wisconsin Rapids (Marawood Conference previews) and also Dodgeland (Trailways South). Also look for a preview of Stanley-Boyd (Cloverbelt East). Look for the Amherst pre-season outlook at the Central Wisconsin conference area. I have added those in the past two days.

Tonight s Play – A batter steps into the batter s box with the bat handle wrapped in plastic tape.

Here is an update from Eau Claire Regis – Mark Wirz now pitching coach

Regis returns its veteran coaching staff along with new pitching coach, Mark Wirz, who moves over from conference foe Fall Creek. Mark spent 5 years there. First base coach Jeff Geissler,(13 years), defensive specialist Rod Thorson,(9 years) and statistician Larry Zorn, (8 years) all return. Head Coach Rick Bush has a 119-59 record in 8 years at the school.

Answer to Tonight's Play/Situation – Bats can t be wrapped with any material or substance that causes the handle to be slippery. The batter should be called out and the illegal bat should be removed from the game or made legal. The umpire must issue a team warning to the head coach. The next player to enter and not be properly equipped will be out and restricted to the dugout/bench and so will the head coach for the rest of the game. To make the bat legal, a not slipper tape or substance could be applied to the bat handle.

I was browsing around looking for fastpitch stuff when I found the WIAC preseason outlook. To read all that great information just click here: http://www.uwsa.edu/wiac/softball/2008prev.html

If you are building a list of Wisconsin collegiate programs on your favorites, add this one for Northland College Softball it is: http://www.northland.edu/Northland/Athletics/Women-Softball

Hey, there are very few umpires who get these bulletins. They really should be on the list and reading the stuff. Most of the crazy plays that come in to me each spring are sent because umpires goofed up or didn t know how to call the zany things that happen. Tell your umpie friends about the site and about the Bulletins.

The Baldwin-Woodville Summer Youth Tournament dates and information is now listed on the Summer Directory page of The Faspitch Chronicle website just go to http://www.fastpitchchronicle.com/summerdirectory.htm and see for yourself.

Hey – that s plenty for tonight!

Have a great day and ----

Keep it Rising

Bob
