It s going, it s deep – it s gone!

Hello Everyone – Thanks to all the people who e-mailed to me today to tell me how much you like the new WSN softball site. For those of you wanting to set up an account, just hang with us a bit. When I met with Nicholas at WSN on Monday, I suggested a game reporting form that coaches can access easily on the WSN site. He liked the idea and informed me today that his people can make that work.

What that means is that a coach can access the game summary form, fill in the blanks for the score by innings, runs, hits errors, then list the winning pitcher, the losing pitcher, up to four leading hitters and then type a game summary like many of you are already accustomed to doing on my Fastpitch Chronicle site. I wanted to maintain that feature for those of you who really do like to report games that way.

When that s available, there are a few things to remember. When you d type those game summaries to me in the past, I d edit them, fix the spelling, etc, and remove the cheerleading stuff (such as: let s get as many fans out for out next game against our biggest rival Bug Tussle on Thursday as we can). Go Hooterville! That kind of cheerleading is not what the thousands of people who will read the reports are looking for. They will want facts and content and summaries that are in more detail than what the newspapers do. I won t be able to do that editing but I want you to continue to report in the same way.

We will still be offering Fastpitch Chronicle certificates for 7-inning no-hitters, 7-inning perfect games, kids who hit multiple automatic home runs in a game, kids involved in the defensive part of a triple play, pitchers who strikeout a mess of batters in a game, and other fantastic plays or achievements. In order to get the certificates you will have to e-mail that information to me. In the past I read and proofed and edited every game score that came in so I knew who the big time performers were statewide on any given day (at least the big time performers whose coaches took the few minutes it takes to report a score to me). Now, I will not be reading and editing and proofing like before so I might miss a player here and there. Actually, it s pretty easy – just e-mail the information to me with your mailing address. I ll do up the certificates and get them out to you. If you don t have them in a week or so, e-mail back and jack me up!

There is the possibility however, that Nicholas may be able to get me the tools to do some editing and proofing on those game summary pages. We ll see, but for now, follow the thought from above.

Also, take a minute and e-mail some highlights from your game that day that are worth mentioning The Fastpitch Bulletin. The more kids names that get in the highlights the better.

Thanks to the people who e-mailed today and said kind things about the work that has been done on The Fastpitch Chronicle site over the years. This game has always been important to me and I ve tried valiantly to never make it about me but have it be about the game and the people in it. The WSN deal will allow the game to get more exposure than my Fastpitch Chronicle site. I ve agreed to work as hard on the WSN site as I did on the Fastpitch Chronicle. If you missed last night s announcement just go to www.wissports.net from here and read the press release and last night s bulletin too.

Here is a little note about a player in the southeastern part of the state worth watching. Caroline Starck of Williams Bay is a junior shortstop. In her first two years of action Caroline has a .452 batting average (70-155), 18 doubles, 8 triples, 2 home runs, 67 RBI, and only five errors. Last season she had two separate four hits games with eight RBI. After watching her play at the state tourney last June, it s easy to see why the folks in Williams Bay say she s the real deal. She s a great tennis player too (state champion).

Here is one avid fan s list of current high school players worth watching. Amanda Ryder of Menomonee, Brittany Krieg of Hudson headed for St. Cloud State; Jessica Freagon of Chippewa Falls McDonell headed for UW-Eau Claire; Beth Schmidt of Menomonee; Ashley Meinen of Chippewa Falls McDonell; Nikki Singerhouse of New Richmond; Brooke Butkus of Medord; Aleisha Harper of Eau Claire North; Jenny Janke of Black River Falls; Mikalya Hogan of Chippewa Falls High School; Lauren Schaller of Holmen; Claudia Harke of Kimberly; Cassie Krum of Stratford; Erin Stenseth of Eau Claire North; Becky Robson of LaCrosse Central; Corie Hegwood of Eau Claire Memorial; Rachle Marthaler of Eau Claire Regis; Sam Weaver of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau; Jenny Hess of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln; Hilary Jennes of Altoona; Abby Singerhouse of Altoona.

Four former Cedarburg softball players are currently playing collegiate softball. They are: Tara Wagner - Concordia College Mequon - Junior; Angela Ward - Concordia College Mequon – Sophomore; Jackie Reichhart - Ripon College – Sophomore; and Abby Van Straten - St. Norbert College – Freshman.

Katie Howard, former Waunakee outfielder is playing at MATC this spring for Coach Del Schneeberger (longtime Johnson Creek coach).

Tonight s Play – Runner at second base. Ball is hit toward the shortstop. After fielding the ball and just as she starts to throw the ball to first base, the runner on the way to third base, yells at the shortstop, which startles the shortstop, causing the throw to go over the first sacker s head into dead-ball territory. What s the call?

Answer to tonight s Play: The runner going to third should be called out immediately for interference. The ball should be declared dead. Of course if the interference caused a possible double play to be unsuccessful in the umpire s judgement, and it occurs before the runner going to third is put out, the closet runner to that runner going to third should be called out too. Now, who gets the putouts?

I took a look at the WFSCA website today and counted the number of schools whose coaches have not paid dues for 2008. That was as of March 7th so some may have sent in since then and have not been updated yet. There were 54 Division 1 (48%) schools not paid; 44 (40%) Division 2 schools not paid; 52 (49%) Division 3 schools not paid; and 61 (57%) Division 4 schools not paid.

What does a WFSCA membership get you? 1) Post season recognition for your players beyond all conference honors; certificates for those players; opportunity for your senior players to take part in the all star series in Stevens Point; a chance to play against an all star team or teams from other states; a state championship ring when your team wins the state title in the division of play you compete in during WIAA tournament play; less heat from the parents of players in your program who find out that you didn t join and their kid has no chance at all of post season recognition; a great coaching clinic in February with excellent speakers and a chance to chat with other coaches from across the state and more!Below, I have listed the school whose coaches I do not have on my e-mail list. If you know their e-mail addresses or know the coaches, send me the e-mails or have them contact me via-e-mail.Have a grand day!

Keep it Rising!

Bob
