Southern Lakes

The 2008 season will mark the final campaign for the Southern Lakes Conference. The schools within the conference will be moving to various conferences in the areas they are located.  Here is a brief preview from the Journal/Sentinel -

Milton- Head Coach Mindy Bilhorn - 2nd Year -The Southern Lakes Conference Champion Red Hawks (10-2) will be the prepared to defend their title in 2008. First team all conference pitcher, senior, Allie Schultz (8-2), and second team catcher, senior, Shawna Wilson (.356) will lead the young Red Hawks. Milton will look to replace five graduates who started including all conference selections, Lauren Jones (.450) and Brianna Cowan (.389). The Red Hawks have strong numbers and depth on their side as many potential starters will have a history of past success at the freshman and JV levels. Coach, Mindy Bilhorn guided the Red Hawks to a Conference title in her first year and will once again be assisted by Kurt Jacob. The Red Hawks will join the Badger Conference in 2009.

Jefferson- Coach Mike Money - 4th Year. The Eagles (8-4) return a talented group lead by First team all conference pitcher/utility, senior, Kayla Clemons (8-2). The Eagles are deep with talent as retuning starters feature Kimara Wilharm, Anna Featherston, Melanie Schloesser, Lindsay Frank, and Jen Vogel. Also look for the talented sophomore sisters Jessica and Jackie Splittgerber to contribute. The Eagles will be joining the Rock Valley Conference next season.



Fort Atkinson- Head Coach Jeff Agnew - 15th Year - The Blackhawk s (9-3) will be returning nine full or part time starters including all state shortstop, senior Megan Jacobson (.432) and second team all conference pitcher, sophomore, Emlie Bakken (9-2). Head coach, Jeff Agnew returns for his fifteenth season and assistant coach, Paul Olson will be entering his thirty-first consecutive year with the program. Next year, the Blackhawk s will be returning to the Badger conference for the first time since 1997 next season.



East Troy- The Trojans (7-5) did not factor into the 2007 Southern Lakes championship, but rebounded to win the Division II Regional and make a trip to the Sectional tournament. They will be lead by the 2007 Southern Lakes, player of the year and all-state selection, senior catcher, Amber O Connell (.462). Trojan coach, Dan Parr, returns for his tenth season. The Trojans will be joining the Rock Valley Conference next season.



Delavan-Darien – Fourth year coach, Mike Fellin, has the Comets (5-7) program on the rise. He will have to replace 2007 graduates and all-conference players, Beth Nieuwenhaus and Angie Cox. First team all conference senior, outfielder, Margaret Hill (.500) will lead the young up and coming Comets. The Comets will move to the Lakeshore Conference next year.



Elkhorn- Third year coach, Tamra Kielty, will lead the young and experienced Elks (1-11). Juniors, Kasey Reeves and Mackenzie May will look to build on their solid past performances. The Elks will move to the Lakeshore Conference in 2009.



Whitewater- Third year coach, Tim Nelson, will have a young team in 2008. The Whippets (2-10) will have to replace starters Tabitha Sukowski, Marial Weidner, and Leandra Stevenson. Whitewater High School will enter the Rock Valley Conference in 2009.
