Six Rivers - East

Here are the Fastpitch Chronicle thoughts in the Six Rivers East for 2008. Teams to Beat in Conference include Black Hawk who was near the top of the conference last year. Roger Jackson has done wonders with them in the past and most likely will do also this year. Chuck Meyer is a mainstay in the conference and his teams always step into the box swinging. If Pec's pitching is there, they'll contend. Argyle went to sectionals last year and is returning a great nucleus of players. Barneveld has a strong tradition, and Craig Neuroth is used to putting a quality product on the field. Monticello and Albany are both are decent teams that can make thing happen on any given night. We think the conference will be a dog fight this year. And who knows what the weather will play.

Argyle-Heidi Ganshert-1st year-

Albany- Coach Connie Wunschel-13 yr., 3rd at Albany - Albany  graduated five seniors, three were starters. Three of them were Honorable Mentions, one was their catcher. They do return a First Teamer in the outfield, Angie Masseur, third baseman Megan Schulz is a three-time  Honorable Mention returnee, and our shortstop, Amy Golz is a two-year First Team player. They have only four seniors on the team, one junior, five sophomores and one freshman, so their team will be young for the next couple years. The best thing is, they return six starters and two others had some playing time last year. Their biggest hole will be getting a catcher up to speed. With only 11 players this year they will be thin, but with our experience I am looking to finish as well as we did last year, in third place.

Barneveld- Coach Craig Neuroth-7th year - Assistant Coaches: Brian Walker (1st year) and Terry Ruchti (1st year) - Barneveld will have to do without the services of Katie Sutter and Heather Buol due to graduation, both 4 year starters. We will also be playing the season without any seniors due to personal reasons. We do have 7 starters returning led by all-conference players Brooke Allen (1st team) and Kelly Mueller (HM). We will be young, but experienced and ready to play. A tough non-conference schedule should help our team get ready for the post-season. Argyle and Black Hawk are probably the teams to beat this year. Argyle returns about 4 key players from last year's team that beat Barneveld in the regional finals. Monticello and Albany will also contend for the conference title.

Black Hawk- Coach Roger Jackson-

Juda- Coach Pam Green-3rd year

Monticello- Coach Duane Garrison-

Pecatonica- Coach Chuck Meyer-27th year-25th year as head coach 27th overall

Pecatonica Overall Record: 280-177 Conference: 196-85

Assistance Coaches: Corrine Montanye 25th year

Prospects:

Kaci Cassidy, Elizabeth Ihm, Katlin Linder, Amanda Schoepp – So. Ellie Gifford -Fr.

Outlook:

Dieterich and Gant are returning all conference players, and will be relied on to provide leadership. Massey will have to shoulder the load in the circle this year, with Gant & Johnson coming on in relief. Gifford has pitched and can provide some help also. This is Dieterich s fourth year starting behind the plate. She will need her experience to help the pitching staff, and Gant will once again have to be the calming influence of the infield. With losing only one senior starter from last year s team, I am looking for this year s team to step it up quite a bit. We have a lot to learn and many questions that need to be answered in the preseason. The team has to concentrate on the little things and work on improving every game we play. I am impressed with this bunch of girls though – they don t shy away from hard work, they are realistic and fun.
