Two Stories We'd Have Missed if We Weren't a Day Late with This Post

This is a day late. Sorry. The procrastination did, however, help us find something to blog about: volleyball in Wisconsin where one doesn't typically hear much volleyball news.

If you spend any time looking at the WVCA top 10 lists in Division 1, Division 2, Division 3 or Division 4, it's easy to determine those areas in Wisconsin that are traditional volleyball hotspots. We're encouraged, though, to find two stories that report on volleyball where you don't usually hear as much.

Home School Volleyball On Monday, The Racine Journal Times reported that Lakeshore Thunder won a home school tournament over the weekend by beating the defending champion SWCHA Saints: "Maggie Stalker had 20 kills, Sophia Gianou had 19 assists and Abby Menako had 29 digs to lead the Thunder." Congrats to the Thunder and to all those who put together the tournament.

City of Milwaukee Volleyball Needless to say, the Milwaukee and Milwaukee-area schools that usually get the most volleyball attention are not those in the Milwaukee City Conference. And that's why it was so refreshing to pick up (yeah, we actually purchase the paper version) today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and see they've named Milwaukee King as their prep team of the week. Congratulations to the Generals on winning conference. According to the paper, King  received significant contributions from senior setter Alexandra Skeeter, senior Kiandrea Honeysucker, juniors Jade Nelson and Gabe Charles, sophomores Avyanna Young and Fiona Beamish, and defensive specialist Kiara Giles.

Nicely done, Racine Journal Times and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Thanks for supporting the sport in the state -- wherever in the state the sport is played.
