New Berlin United outlasts Nicolet for first State title

Thanks to a match-high 26 kills and a championship-winning service ace from senior Outside Hitter Jeremy Dejno, New Berlin United earned a thrilling 25-20, 23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 16-14 victory over Nicolet to earn its first ever boys volleyball state title Saturday evening at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee.



Jamie Sugar added 11 kills for New Berlin, with 6'8" sophomore Nick Olson adding nine kills and seven total blocks. Senior Setter Chris Pokrzywa picked up eight block assists and one solo stuff of his own and Senior Libero Adam Vlaj recorded 19 digs to lead the Juggernaut defense.



Nicolet's potent hitting tandem of Matt Klingspohn and Rob Mayer tallied 21 and 18 kills respectively in the loss.
