For the second straight year Arrowhead, Madison Edgewood, and La Crosse Aquinas have won their respective divisions of the WSN Cup. The WSN Cup is in its third year, recognizing schools that provide and achieve success in many of the WIAA sponsored sports. The award totals points earned in both men's and women's sports. All current WIAA sponsored sports are included as part of the scoring for the award.

Large School Division

Arrowhead racked up the most points during the fall sports season, accumulated the most in the winter sports as well, and posted a solid showing during the spring to claim its third straight Large School Division title.

The Warhawks scored 846 points overall, with four state championships this season:  boys golf, girls swimming, gymnastics, and boys basketball. Also, the girls track team was a state runner-up while the boys soccer and football teams advanced to the state semi-finals.

In addition to winning the Large Schools Division, Arrowhead had the highest point total of any division for the third straight year. Congratulations to the Warhawks and Athletic Director Kevin Flegner.

Homestead had a great spring sports season, piling up a season-high 382.7 points during the championships held at the end of the school year. This late push allowed them to overcome just 70.4 points during the winter season to claim second place in the Large Schools Division. Milwaukee Marquette, Middleton, and Madison Memorial rounded out the top five.

Medium Schools Division

Madison Edgewood claimed its second straight Medium Schools title (the medium division has only been in place for two seasons) with a total score of 821.8. Buoyed by a strong spring that saw the Crusaders put up 370 points, Edgewood rallied to pull off the win by more than 100 points over three-time runners-up Catholic Memorial (once in the small schools division and twice in the medium division).

The Crusaders outstanding spring sports season included a boys golf title as well as final four finishes in girls soccer, boys tennis, baseball, and boys track. The Edgewood girls golf team won its unprecedented ninth straight team title in the fall.

Edgewood's cumulative score was good for second overall amongst all divisions, less than 25 points behind Arrowhead. Congratulations to the Crusaders and Athletic Director Chris Zwettler.

As previously mentioned, rival Catholic Memorial finished second in the Medium Schools Divisions with a total of 719.6 points. The Crusaders from Waukesha won state titles in girls volleyball, boys basketball, and girls soccer along with a runner-up finish in boys soccer. Notre Dame, Whitefish Bay, and Shorewood round out the top five for the Medium Schools.

Small Schools Division

For the third straight year, La Crosse Aquinas High School is the recipient of the WSN Cup award for the Small Schools Division. Aquinas accumulated 500.2 points on the season and completed a come from behind win by racking up a division best 249.3 points during the spring sports season.

Trailing McDonell Central, Newman, and University School heading into the spring, Aquinas got boosts from a runner-up finish in baseball, a state semi-final finish in girls soccer and strong showings by the boys tennis, girls track, and softball teams.

Aquinas won despite totaling just 46.9 points during the winter sports season, but made up for it with strong showing during the fall and spring. Congratulations to the Blugolds and Athletic Director Ted Knutson.

University School won spring sports titles in baseball and boys tennis, but it was not enough to hold off Aquinas as the Wildcats finished second with 474.3 points. McDonell Central, Newman, and Catholic Central round out the top five.

Congratulations to the winners and a great job by all the teams during an outstanding and exciting 2009-10 sports season.  Look for the WSN Cup to appear in the winning school's trophy cases this fall.
