The Luxemburg-Casco girls volleyball team earned this week's Splash of the Week after winning its third tournament title of the year Saturday, winning the always-competitive Cardinal Invitaional in Middleton.

The Spartans swept New Glarus and Lodi before being swept by a surging Stoughton squad to end pool play with a 2-1 record. L-C then knocked off four straight opponents to clinch the title with wins over Wisconsin Heights (25-17, 11-25, 15-13), Brookfield Central (25-23, 22-25, 15-4), Middleton (26-24, 25-22) and Verona (20-25, 25-22, 15-8).

Junior middle hitter Mikaela Gunderson led the Spartans on the weekend with 71 kills in the seven matches played, while sophomore setter Marissa Klein dished out 147 assists and junior defensive specialist Haley Kinnard tallied 67 digs.

Luxemburg-Casco, which also won the East Troy Invitional in late August and the Beaver Dam Invite on Sept. 11, moved to 28-4 overall and remains tied with Oconto Falls atop the early Bay Conference standings at 2-0. The Spartans will tackle New London and Seymour this week before a big showdown at Denmark on Sept. 28.
