Clayton quarterback Tyler Ketz made history Saturday in the Bears' 47-46 shootout win over Lakeland South rival Elmwood, passing for over 500 yards and earning this week's Splash of the Week.

In a back-and-forth affair Saturday afternoon behind the 124-student Clayton High School, senior quarterback Tyler Ketz made quite a racket. The 22-for-29 completion percentage of 76 percent not only ranks as one of the best in the state this season, but the 507 passing yards eclipsed this season's state record and ranks fifth-best in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association official records. Six touchdowns thrown also ties Ketz for sixth place in the all-time list.

Ketz's favorite target against the Elmwood secondary was senior Taylor Bergmann, who caught a Week 5 state-leading nine passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns. Sophomore Zach Schradle caught six passes and junior Matt Gretzlock caught a two, as each receiver tallied 73 yards receiving and one touchdown apiece.

Last season Ketz threw for 2,140 yards -- 1,167 of which were caught by top Clayton receiver and now-graduated Taylor Dayton. Though in his first four games this year, Ketz' arm had been relatively untested, passing for just 271 yards and two touchdowns prior to Saturday. Yet when the dust finally settled, Ketz quite literally threw his name back into the hat of top quarterbacks in 2010.

Clayton's victory also was its first over Elmwood in school history and improved the Bears to 3-0. Clayton, which is looking for just its third playoff berth in the past 10 years, remained tied with Plum City atop the Lakeland South conference standings. The Bears will travel to Prairie Farm and Cornell in Weeks 6 and 7.

Honorable Mention

Marquette Boys Volleyball:
The Hilltoppers survived a pair of three-set matches in the championship bracket of the Dave Hash Invitational in Kaukauna Saturday to claim the 2010 title. Marquette swept through pool play and Kettle Moraine in the quarterfinals before squeaking past Nicolet in the semis and host Kaukauna each by 2-1 scores to remain as the team to beat on the boys side this season.

Catholic Memorial Girls Volleyball: The Crusaders continued their girls volleyball dominance at the Lynn LaPorte Sprawl in West Bend Saturday, remaining perfect against in-state opponents by going 7-0 in match play. Even more impressive is that CMH swept all seven opponents, including five Division 1-ranked teams en route to the title. The Crusaders beat Neenah (#9), Divine Savior Holy Angels (#10), Wisconsin Lutheran, Fond du Lac (#6), Kenosha Tremper, Burlington (#2) and Kaukauna (#4) in the title match.

Brookfield East Boys Soccer: The Spartans knocked off cross-town rival Brookfield Central 3-1 Tuesday to move one-half game behind rival Central in the Greater Metro standings. Peter Tongas recorded a pair of goals and Mark Heydt added a goal and an assist as No. 4 East handed the top-ranked Lancers their first loss of the season.

Winnebago Lutheran Boys Soccer: WLA took a big step in securing the Flyway boys soccer title by shutting out Division 3 top-ranked Kettle Moraine Lutheran Tuesday thanks to a pair of Tom Knuth goals. The No. 2 Vikings are one of just two unbeaten squads left in the state and moved to 19-0-0 after surviving Central Wisconsin Christian Thursday.
