With a demonstrative 31-6 victory over Regis Friday evening, Colby took over sole possession of the Cloverbelt Conference and earned this week's Splash of the Week.

The Hornets, ranked No. 4 in last week's Division 5 WSN Coaches Poll, hosted Regis, ranked No. 3 in Division 6, in what was slated to be one of the most important games in Northern Wisconsin. And after a bit of a slow start, Colby proved they were the class of the Cloverbelt Friday night with a resounding 25-point victory over the defending D6 state runner-up.

Regis opened the scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run by Marco Ortiz midway through the first quarter, but missed the PAT kick. That's the only lead the Ramblers enjoyed all night, as Colby finally found the end zone over a quarter later and went on to score the next 24 points to seal the Hornet victory.

Dylan Loertscher led Colby with 17 carries for 93 yards and a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns, while Michael Cliver added a score of his own on the ground. Neither team looked to the air much, but Colby quarterback Aaron Koerner did connect with receiver Jeremy Rahm in the second quarter on a 19 yard score--the only passing TD of the game.

Colby's win moved the Hornets to 5-0 in the Cloverbelt Conference and 6-0 overall with Regis falling a half-game back at 5-1 in both league play and overall. Remaining on the slate for Colby is Cadott, Altoona and Spencer/Columbus Catholic who are a combined 3-12 in Cloverbelt play this season.

Honorable Mention

Nicolet Girls & Boys Volleyball: The Nicolet volleyball trophy case got a bitmore crowded Saturday as both Knights squads picked up victories in their respective invitationals Saturday in rather dominant fashion. The girls knocked off New Berlin West and Appleton East to secure the championship of the Gold Bracket at its host Brittney Gigl Memorial Invitational, while the boys swept Westosha Central and Burlington to earn the Shorewood Invite championship.

Ryan Wisdom, Hayward: A 5-11 junior striker for the Hurricanes soccer team, Wisdom tallied a state-high 25 points last week alone on 11 goals and three assists in Middle Border victories over Somerset, Barron and Cumberland. Wisdom, with 100 points recorded on the season, currently ranks second on the WSN boys soccer point leaders off 45 goals and 10 assists in 2010. The Hurricanes (8-3 MBC, 13-5-2 overall) are currently in third place in the MBC behind New Richmond (10-1-1) and unbeaten Osceola (9-0-1).

D'Andre LaRoche, La Crosse Logan: LaRoche's 288 rushing yards and three touchdowns in Friday's victory over Onalaska was not only a season-high for the Logan running back, but it also broke the single-game rushing yardage school record. Just over 300 yards shy of the 1000 mark on the season, LaRoche has led the Rangers to the top of the Mississippi Valley Confference with a 3-0 mark in league play.

Emily Joers, Waukesha: She may be just a sophomore, but the Waukesha Co-op girls golfer entered the Broadlands Golf Course clubhouse with not only the lowest score in her Division 1 regional, but the entire state. Boasting a 36 and 34 on the front and back nines respectively, Joers' round of 70 led Waukesha to a third place finish Thursday, enough to send both herself and the team to the sectional competition this Tuesday at Elkhorn.
