An undefeated season is something not many teams have the joy of experiencing, though in the Division 3 girls volleyball state championship last weekend, one team would boast just that. In a showdown of unbeaten teams, Racine St. Catherine's capped off its season record at a perfect 42-0 by beating formerly unbeaten Grantsburg to win its first ever girls state volleyball title and this week's Splash of the Week.

St. Cat's, ranked No. 2 in the final regular-season Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association poll, beat top-ranked Grantsburg 20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 behind a triple-double from freshman outside hitter Abby Jeffcoat. Jeffcoat tallied a team-high 19 kills and three aces to go with 19 assists, 10 digs and a solo block. The Angels also got plenty of help from junior Haley Jeffcoat's 14 kills and team-high 21 digs, as well as 6-3 senior middle hitter Kathleen Omelina's nine kills and six total blocks.

The Angels, who won all five regular-season invitationals, the Midwest Classic South conference tournament and now the state championship, also knocked off upset-minded Auburndale in the semifinals 3-1. Haley and Abby again led the MCC champs with 25 and 17 kills respectively in the four-set victory over the Apaches.

The accolades from the WVCA didn't stop coming for the newly-crowned champs Sunday, as both Jeffcoats and Omelina were all named to the Division 3 state all-tournament teams. Sunday, Haley was also honored as a first-team all-state nominee, the only Division 3 representative on the first team.

Honorable Mention

Baldwin-Woodville Football: The Blackhawks scored just 14 points in their Level 3 WIAA playoff game against top-seeded Northwestern, but the defense held the Tigers' run game to just 127 yards and 166 total yards score the shutout upset victory. Riley Anderson broke open the scoring on a 14-yard run, and a Derek Weyer pass from Jordan Weyer made it 14-0, enough to hold on for the win. Baldwin-Woodville will travel to D.C. Everest to take on Kewaunee in a Division 4 state semifinal.

Kendall Wienkes, Highland: Wieknes was head and shoulders above the competition at the Division 4 state girls volleyball tournament, quite literally. The senior middle and IPFW recruit tallied 50 kills, 29 digs, four aces and six total blocks in Highland's wins over McDonell Central and Catholic Central this weekend.

Waunakee Football: In a showdown of undefeated and top-three ranked Division 2 Badger conference divisional champions, Waunakee overcame a halftime deficit against Monona Grove to move onto its second straight state semifinal. Down 7-3 at the break, Warrior Christian Foster picked off MG quarterback Dylan Rauch and returned it 15 yards to put Waunakee ahead. A pair of touchdowns by Dylan Straus finally put the game away as the Warriors will face Franklin Saturday for the right to play at Camp Randall.

Greendale Boys Volleyball: The Panthers may have finished fourth in the Woodland Conference, but Greendale now finds its way in a WIAA state boys volleyball quarterfinal after upsetting Racine Horlick and knocking off Greenfield. Next up for the Panthers-- No. 4-ranked Wauwatosa East.
