Just days after being named the Wisconsin boys volleyball coaches' Player of the Year, Catholic Memorial junior outside hitter Trevor Novotny went out and proved his accolade on the state's biggest stage and earned this weeks Splash of the Week.

Catholic Memorial entered the WIAA boys volleyball state tournament last weekend as the top-ranked team among the statewide boys volleyball coaches. Headlining the Crusaders squad was state P.O.Y Novotny, who had tallied 392 kills on the season prior to the state tournament, as well as All-State First Team senior libero Dan Casper.

While Casper played a very strong tournament series himself, picking up 25 digs on the weekend, Novotny stole the show at Wisconsin Lutheran College with 59 kills on .385 hitting in a trio of three-set sweeps to win Catholic Memorial's second state title and first since 2000.

Novotny had a bit of a rough opening match against a very big Kaukauna block on Friday, yet still registered a match-high 14 kills. Saturday the Crusader P.O.Y. was nearly unstoppable with a record-breaking 27 kills and just two errors on 43 total attempts, for a blistering .581 hitting percentage in CMH's pasting of upset-minded Westosha Central. In the championship nightcap against second-ranked Marquette, Novotny kept the hot hand with 18 kills on .367 hitting to score the sweep for the gold ball. Novotny also added 14 digs and eight service aces in the Crusaders' three-sweep state tournament.

Novotny officially etched his name into the boys state volleyball record books, posting his name on the following lists:
-- Kills (3 sets) - 1st,  27 vs. Westosha Central
-- Attempts (3 sets) - t5th, 43 vs. Westosha Central
-- Hit Percentage (3 sets) - 4th, .581 (27-3-43) vs. Westosha Central
-- Aces (Tournament) - t3rd, 8 in 3 matches

Novotny not only dominated the state level last weekend, but he also received the MVP award at the National Club Tournament where his West Allis-based team won the championship. The bad news for opposing teams next year? He'll be back for his senior season.
