Name: Derek Hasanoglu

Football Honors: Three-year varsity letter winner for coach Bill Schulte … One of the top high school quarterbacks in Wisconsin … Chosen as the Player of the Year in the Classic Eight Conference as a senior after earning honorable mention all-league honors as a junior .... Passed for 523 yards and five touchdowns as a senior while also rushing for a whopping 1,084 yards and 15 touchdowns … Led Mukwonago to an upset victory over Arrowhead as a senior while helping the Indians to a 5-5 overall record.

Basketball Honors: Three-year varsity letter winner for coach Jim Haasser … Athletic wing player who often finishes above the rim … Averaged 14.8 points per game as a junior en route to earning second-team all-league honors in the ultra tough Classic Eight Conference ... Also earned second-team all-league laurels as a sophomore.

Track & Field Honors: Set a school record in the high jump at the Classic Eight Conference Meet last spring by clearing 6 feet, 9 inches … Advanced to the WIAA State Track and Field Meet in the high jump in each of the past three season … Also took part in the long jump last season and turned in a personal best of 21 feet, 5 inches.

Favorite Sport: “I wouldn’t say I have a favorite sport. I always say I have the most fun playing football during the football season, and the same thing with basketball and track. I guess I would say football first and then basketball, but they are all really close.”

Best Part of High School Sports: “I love the atmosphere at football and basketball games. We always have very good showings in our student sections. When you fill up a gym and the gym is roaring, it’s great. The atmosphere is one of the most enjoyable things.”

Most Memorable Moment in High School Sports: “I have two moments. One of them would be our win against Arrowhead in football this year. We came out and played our best game of the year. I always dreamed of beating Arrowhead and doing it as a senior was pretty special. My other most memorable moment is dunking on J.P. Tokoto of Menomonee Falls in a playoff game my sophomore year.”

Best Advice Received from High School Coach: “Something that meant a lot to me was said by my track coaches, coach (Vince) Komar and coach (Tim) Stark. Some of my meets in the spring conflicted with some AAU basketball events. The coaches kept telling me they wanted to see me succeed in all sports. Working with me in the spring, they wanted to help me in all aspects of my football and basketball games. Those two have been at every football and every basketball game and have been exceptionally supportive.”

Best Part of Playing Three Sports: “Playing three sports can be a burden, but it always keeps me busy. If I just went home to after school every day, I would get bored. Competing in sports is something I’ve always done so it’s common for me. It also helps me keep a competitive edge. I love the competition involved in sports.”

Toughest Part of Playing Three Sports: “When you play three sports, during the season of one sport, you also have to work the other sports. During track season, I do track, but I also throw the football and shoot the basketball. I’m always working on more than one thing at once. It gets tiring at times, but it does keep me busy.”

Favorite Opponents: “For some reason, it’s got to be Arrowhead. Football, basketball and track … I love to compete against Arrowhead. In basketball, I sometimes come out with extra fire when we play Arrowhead. It sometimes gets me in foul trouble so I have to watch it, but it’s a fun rivalry.”

Favorite College Teams: For football, it’s Wisconsin. For basketball, it’s Duke.

Favorite Professional Teams: “If I’m watching the NBA, I always watch the Bucks. I’m also a big Packer fan as well.”

Cumulative GPA: 3.30.

Toughest Individual You’ve Competed Against: “From a basketball standpoint, I’d say T.J. Bray of Catholic Memorial within our conference. We would guard each other and also knew each other from AAU. He’s a great player and a tough challenge to guard.”

College Plans: “I haven’t made an official decision yet, but I have a scholarship offer to West Point for football. There might be some other scholarships on the way as well. We are sending out more tapes. I may walk-on for football as well. I’ve narrowed it down to most likely football, but if something special happens this year in basketball or track, I can’t rule that out, either.”

Activities Outside of Sports: Member of the Mukwonago Athletic Club, Class President sophomore year, work with younger kids at the Mukwonago basketball and football camps.

I Find it Relaxing to: “I play some golf. Play some video games with friends. Read and watch TV.”

Favorite Movie: The Patriot.

Favorite Subject: AP Psychology.
