Week 2 WSN/WBCA Coaches Poll

Week 1 WSN/WBCA Coaches Poll

The Week 2 WSN/WBCA Boys Basketball Coaches Poll has been released, and all five #1 teams from last week remain on top of their respective divisions. There has been some great early season non-conference games so far, with several highly ranked teams taking multiple losses on the young season. This of course means plenty of changes in the rankings. It is still early and things will change tremendously over the course of the year, but this gives a bit of a guide as to some of the programs to keep an eye on as the season progresses. Remember, in addition to the Coaches Poll you can also check out Team Stats, winning percentage and RPI by clicking here.

Division 1

After pulling out a last second win over previously ninth-ranked Sun Prairie, the Madison Memorial Spartans not only remain on top of the Division 1 poll, they are a unanimous choice this week. With former #2 De Pere losing to Sheboygan North and #3 Milwaukee Hamilton going down twice, Milwaukee King vaults from #4 to #2 this week. This sets up a 1 vs. 2 showdown Saturday at the Eastbay/Converse Classic at Wisconsin Lutheran College as Memorial and King will battle it out in a great early season game. De Pere drops to #7 and Hamilton to #10 this week. The rest of the top five are unbeatens Appleton East, Germantown, and Milwaukee Marquette. Racine Case, Sheboygan North, and Milwaukee Riverside are new teams in this week's rankings. Defending champion Arrowhead, who has beaten Milwaukee Hamilton and Wisconsin Lutheran already this year, is a team on the outside looking in still, but likely to be ranked very soon if they keep up their stellar early season play.

Division 2

Onalaska remains the top team in the Division 2 poll. Monroe slides up from #5 to #2 as the top five undergoes some minor shuffling. Wisconsin Lutheran saw some major shuffling after losing to two games last week, going from #4 to #10. Seymour comes in at #3 and has a tough non-conference game against Bay Port coming up tonight. Waunakee and Nicolet round out the top five. Oregon, off to a nice 4-0 start under new coach Jon Nedelcoff, enters the rankings at #13.

Division 3

There wasn't a whole lot of turnover in Division 3, as the top eight remain intact, with Racine St. Catherine's the strong favorite at this point. Roncalli, Dominican, East Troy, and Aquinas continue to hold down the rest of the top five spots. River Valley was a victim of a bit of a shuffling, falling from #9 to #15 despite not losing a game. You can expect Coach Jeff Johnson and the Blackhawks will climb up the rankings again soon. The Hope School is the only new team in the rankings, replacing Lake Mills, who is another team that slid slightly despite not losing. Division 3 is shaping up to be one of the deepest and most competitive in the state and should be fun to watch all season.

Division 4

Blair-Taylor (#1) and Racine Lutheran (#2) continue to have a sizable cushion between themselves and the rest of the Division 4 field. Laconia, Amherst, and Regis round out the top five. The Ramblers slid from #3 to #5 after a tough loss at Aquinas in a battle for the Bishop's Cup. Mineral Point, Wisconsin Heights, and Ozaukee are new to this week's rankings, replacing Thorp, Fall Creek, and Colby (who has yet to play a game coming off a run in the football playoffs to the state title game).

Division 5

Randolph remains on top of the Division 5 rankings, continuing to get respect from the coaches as the only 1-loss #1 team in the state. Sheboygan Lutheran and junior standout Sam Dekker have looked very good so far, and slide up from #4 to #2. Benton, who lost to Division 3 Platteville Monday night, drops from #2 to #3. Hilbert and Green Lake round out the top five as former #3 Suring gets shuffled down a bit despite remaining undefeated. Hilbert wasn't ranked last week, but got a boost from a larger voter turnout this week to jump into the #4 spot.
