Sam Dekker, Sheboygan Lutheran -
Dekker's play in the early going has been one of the biggest stories of the year so far, as the junior University of Wisconsin commit has wowed those in attendance at the Crusaders' games and put up eye-popping numbers. Dekker is averaging just over 30 points per game in the early going, with better than 10 rebounds per game. His floor game has also been outstanding, as he leads the team in assists, steals, and blocks as well. Dekker went for 27 points and 20 rebounds in a game against Howards Grove, and put up another double-double a few days later against Kohler. Even in the Crusaders' lone loss Dekker did everything he could to keep Lutheran in the game. Against The Hope School on December 29th, Dekker scored 52 points and sent the game into overtime with a halfcourt shot at the buzzer before the Crusaders fell 79-78.

Nimrod Hilliard, Madison East -
East lost four starters, including All-State performer Marquis Mason, from last year's team that tied Memorial for the Big Eight title. There was also a change at the top, as veteran head man Rich Cleveland retired and was replaced by Matt Miota. So it is definitely a pleasant surprise to find the Purgolders at 6-2 overall and 4-2 in conference. Much of the credit can be given to senior point guard Nimrod Hilliard. He has picked up his scoring to off-set the production losses from last year, and is averaging 27.6 points per game so far. He's also chipping in on the boards and is once again one of the better guards at driving and finding teammates for open shots. In a 65-62 win at crosstown rival Madison West, Hilliard poured in 32 points. Less than a week later in a 76-59 win at league title hopeful Sun Prairie, he added 25.
Kevin Mays, St. John's Northwest Military Academy - Saint John's Northwest Military Academy is off to a perfect 5-0 start, with all five games coming in December. During that stretch Mays has been virtually unstoppable. The 6-4 senior guard/forward has averaged 23.6 points and 16.4 rebounds per game so far for the Lancers. A likely Division I college athlete, Mays is shooting a blistering 62% from the field as the Lancers are currently ranked 4th in Division 3 in the latest WSN/WBCA Coaches Poll.

Connor Miller, Regis -
The Ramblers have played one of the toughest schedules in Division 4 this season, and have come through with a 9-1 mark so far, including a 7-1 record in the month of December. Miller has been oustanding throughout, guiding the offense from his point guard position and also being relied on as the primary scorer. Using his deadly outside shot combined with a knack for getting to the line, Miller is averaging 22.2 points in the early going. In a pair of wins at the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout over Dominican and defending D2 champion Catholic Memorial, Miller scored 19 points in each game. He went 10 for 10 from the foul line in a 62-58 victory over Catholic Memorial.

Cale Zuiker, Marshfield -
The Tigers are off to a 9-0 (8-0 in December) start on the season, including a 3-0 record in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. The versatile 6-9 senior forward has used his size, skills, and outstanding shooting ability to pour in 19.9 points per game during that stretch. Marshfield has played a tough early schedule, and the wins haven't come easy. Other than an opening 19-point win over Baraboo, the rest of the Tigers' seven December wins all came by seven or fewer points. Zuiker scored 23 in a 61-57 win at Wausau West and also eclipsed the 20-point mark in narrow wins against Eau Claire North (28 points) and Chippewa Falls (26 points).
