Girls Basketball Bracket Projections v2.0

Following the release of our initial Projected Girls Basketball Seedings on Monday, it's time to take a fresh look at the projections following a week's worth of games. Most teams were able to get one game in and many played two this week even with a number of postponements on Monday due to weather.

The new projections aren't radically different, with only around a dozen spots changing since Monday. And while a number of projected #1 seeds lost in that span, we are projecting that just two spots will change from our initial thoughts.

In Division 4, Sectional 2, Marathon had been the top pick in Regional A, but a 49-45 loss to Auburndale Tuesday night coupled with Crandon defeating a solid Goodman/Pembine team (not to mention taking an outright lead in the Northern Lakes conference) has us projecting Crandon to receive the #1 seed in that regional. Down in Division 5's Sectional 2, the loss by Goodman/Pembine along with a Wausaukee victory at M&O leading Gillett has us now predicting Wausaukee to receive the top seed in Regional C.

You can click on the different divisions and then find the sectional in the drop-down menu to locate the regionals and teams. Remember, these projections were done Friday morning, taking into account games through Thursday night.

For those new to the girls high school basketball playoffs, or unfamiliar with the process, the teams in each regional are pre-determined by the WIAA. This weekend, coaches from each team in a particular regional will get together and vote on which teams are to be awarded which seeds. There is a format and procedure for these meetings set forth by the WIAA which can be found here.

Another recent trend at seeding meetings is for coaches to reference their team's RPI rating published by WisSports.net. The RPI ratings can be found here, and include a menu at the left to sort by each division.

Again, these are unofficial seeding projections and are meant as a guide for fans, to facilitate discussion, and give a hint of what is to come. With teams playing games the rest of this week, these projections are certainly fluid and may change based on the outcomes of said games.

The full official brackets will be released Sunday, so be sure to check WisSports.net early and often as we will be posting them as soon as they become available.

Below is a list of the current project #1 seeds. To view the full seeding projections, sign up for WSN Xtra here.
