Sam Dekker of Sheboygan Lutheran was the lone unanimous selection to the WBCA D5 All-State Team.

The University of Wisconsin commit finished second in individual state scoring with 28.8 points per game this season. Dekker’s range from the floor and touch near the rim, as well as his impressive 52- and 50-point performances in single games this season has already made him one of the premiere players in the smallest schools division and one of several headliners in the talented Class of 2012.

Joining Dekker on the team was: Matthew Babel (Sr), Lake Country Lutheran; Aaron Gosse (Sr), NEW Lutheran; TJ Huizenga (Sr), Randolph; Tyler Ketz (Sr), Clayton; Chris McCullick (Sr), Wauzeka-Steuben; David Neis (Jr), Benton; Matt Savatski (Sr), Benton; Chad Strehlow (Sr), Suring; Matt Van Scyoc (Jr), Green Lake; Kaylor Zimmerman (Sr), NEW Lutheran

Matthew Babel, Sr., Lake Country Lutheran – Babel reached the 30-point mark nine times this season against hearty Midwest Classic Conference competition, including a career-high 36 against North division champion Hope School in early February. The senior guard can score in a variety of ways and finished second in Division 5 scoring with 25.6 points per game.

Aaron Gosse, Sr., N.E.W. Lutheran – Gosse was part of a one-two guard punch for last year’s Division 4 runner-up and this season was equally impressive. The 6-4 senior scored just fewer than 400 points this season, averaging over 14 per game, and scored a season-high 24 in a non-conference win over Kewaunee. Gosse was also instrumental in helping the Blazers make its second straight and second ever trip to the state tournament this season.

T.J. Huizenga, Sr., Randolph – Huizenga led the top-ranked Division 5 powerhouse Rockets in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals and is a prime example of a versatile basketball athlete. The senior guard/forward recorded four double-doubles this season alone and is a major reason why Randolph reached its eighth state tournament appearance in the past decade in 2011.

Tyler Ketz., Sr., Clayton – Ketz graces the All-State list for the second straight year as he led the Bears to their third straight Lakeland East Conference title and back to its second straight trip to the state tournament. In his senior season, the smooth and skillful Ketz averaged 18.6 points per game while shooting a deadly 44 percent from behind the arc.

Chris McCullick, Sr., Wauzeka-Steuben – McCullick led the Hornets with 17.5 points per game and was an efficient scorer, shooting 50 percent from the floor in his senior season. The 6-2 forward capped off a great career by reaching the 1,000-point career scoring plateau and led Wauzeka-Steuben to the program’s first ever trip to the state semifinals this season.

David Neis, Jr., Benton – Neis led the Zephyrs in scoring this season with 17 points per game and ran the Benton offense for the entire season. The junior guard scored a season-high 31 points against Southwestern and led Benton to its second sectional semifinal in the past three seasons this year.

Matt Savatski, Sr., Benton – Savatski did just about everything for Benton in his four years on varsity, as the experienced forward was integral to Benton’s fourth straight Six Rivers West title. Savatski averaged over 15 points and almost seven rebounds per game, also scoring his 1000th point in this his senior season.

Chad Strehlow, Sr., Suring – Strehlow led the Marinette & Oconto Conference in scoring this season with over 21 points per contest as the Eagles soared into the WIAA sectional semifinals in 2011. Strehlow ranked 11th in Division 5 scoring overall played a vital role in Suring’s 85-15 record the past four seasons.

Matt Van Scyoc, Jr., Green Lake – Van Scyoc was a force for the Lakers this season as he led the Trailways North division with over 22 points per game—also ranking him fifth in Division 5 with 561 points on the season. The junior wing player, who is already receiving recruiting interest from several DI colleges, also added over nine rebounds and almost three assists per game.

Kaylor Zimmerman, Sr., N.E.W. Lutheran – Zimmerman was N.E.W. Lutheran’s leading scorer and go-to man for the Packerland Conference champion Blazers, who also reached the WIAA state tournament for the second straight season. Zimmerman, while managing the floor in the point guard position, averaged 15.8 points per game and tallied a team-high 198 assists his senior year alone.
