Senior Paul Jesperson of Merrill and junior Wally Ellenson of Rice Lake were unanimous selections for the 2011 WBCA Division 2 All-State team.

Jesperson, a 6-7 guard who has signed with Virginia, averaged 22.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game for the Bluejays, and is a big reason Merrill has advanced to the Division 2 state tournament. One of the state’s top long-range shooters, he was a First Team selection in Division 1 last season.

Ellenson is a physically strong and athletic wing player whose overall game has blossomed this season. Always one of the state’s best finishers inside, the 6-5 standout has improved his outside game, which has allowed him to average 21 points per contest for the Warriors.

Joining Ellenson and Jesperson on the team were: Michael Barrett, Sr, Monroe; Chad Mazur, Sr, Reedsburg; Beau Murray, Sr, Waunakee; Terry Nash, Sr, Wisconsin Lutheran; Phil Romback, Sr, Seymour; Jamie Schneck, Sr, Whitefish Bay; Calahan Skogman, Sr, Seymour; Matt Thomas, So, Onalaska.

Michael Barrett helped Monroe to yet another highly successful season, as the Cheesemakers won the Badger-South title for the fifth straight year. The 6-3 guard showed great versatility in his game and averaged 19 points per contest.

Chad Mazur of Reedsburg led all of Division 2 in scoring this year with 24.9 points per game. Strong, athletic, and highly skilled, the 6-3 guard poured in 51 points in a January win over Portage and also had games of 43 and 40 points.

Beau Murray from Waunakee was part of a deep and balanced Waunakee squad that won the Badger-North title and has advanced to the Division 2 state tournament. The Warriors leading scorer at 11.6 points per game, the 6-2 Murray shoots 79.6% from the free throw line.

Terry Nash of Wisconsin Lutheran averaged 14.4 points per game for the Vikings this season. Wisco captured a sixth straight outright Wisconsin Little Ten Conference championship, with the 6-1 Nash providing outstanding senior leadership and a high level of intensity.

Phil Romback of Seymour earned honorable mention All-State recognition last year, and has stepped his game up even more as a senior, helping the Thunder get back to the Division 2 state tournament. The 6-7 Michigan Tech commit averaged 19.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for Seymour this season.

Jamie Schneck of Whitefish Bay is a big reason the Blue Dukes surprised many people and advanced to the Division 2 state tournament out of the always tough southeast sectional. The 6-8 senior poured in 15.3 points per game while also contributing 7.4 rebounds and nearly 2 blocks per game as well.

Calahan Skogman of Seymour is a repeat Division 2 First Team All-State choice after leading the Thunder with 21.5 points per game. An outstanding shooter who also features outstanding strength to finish inside through contact, the 6-4 Skogman also added 6.6 points, nearly 4 assists, and nearly 3 steals per game as well for head coach Jon Murphy.

Matt Thomas of Onalaska came up big for the Hilltoppers, and helped keep them a strong contender all season despite several key injuries. The only sophomore on the Division 2 All-State team, Thomas is a great shooter and improving scorer who averaged 16.5 points per game this year.
