Zak Showalter leads the way as the only unanimous selection to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 1 All-State Team.

The 6-foot-3 junior led the Warhawks to an undefeated conference record and averaged 19.2 points on the season.  Showalter is a high-energy guard who can hit the three and mix things up in the paint as displayed by his 42 made three pointers and 135 attempted free throws.  The Warhawks finished the season at 24-2, being tripped up in overtime of the inaugural Super Tuesday by undefeated Appleton East.

The rest of the first team included:  Johnny Coenen (Sr), Appleton East; Nimrod Hilliard (Sr), Madison East; Chris Kading (Sr), De Pere; Joel Lindberg (Sr), Superior; Junior Lomomba (Sr), Madison Memorial; Jameel McKay (Sr), Milwaukee Pulaski; Joe Ritchay (Sr), Wisconsin Rapids; Jean-Pierre Tokoto (Jr), Menomonee Falls; Trinson White (Sr), Milwaukee Riverside; Devin Yurk (Jr), Sheboygan North.

Coenen, the Player of the Year in the Fox Valley Association, leads his Appleton East Patriots into the state tournament with an undefeated record.  The senior guard is the prototypical point guard, leading a balanced East attack that has five players averaging between nine and twelve points per game.  He also can put the ball in the hole when needed, like in the sectional final game where he put up 27 of East’s 47 points to upend cross-town rival Appleton West, 47-42.

Hilliard was able to hold together a young Madison East team that lost four of its five leading scorers from a year ago and was able to come up with a couple of big upsets during the season.  The South Dakota recruit led Division 1 in scoring and was seventh overall, putting up 24.2 points per game.  A point guard who can get anywhere on the court he wants, he also filled up the box score to the tune of six assists, six rebounds and two steals per contest.

Kading was a rock in the middle for state-bound De Pere, averaging 14 points and eight rebounds while shooting a staggering 69.2% from the field.  The North Dakota State recruit can finish in the paint with a dunk and also was a huge factor for the Redbirds on defense, averaging over four blocked shots per game.

Lindberg averaged close to 17 points per game while leading Superior to a perfect record in the Lake Superior Conference.  Another North Dakota State recruit, the 6-2 guard is a jack of all trades, being able to get the rim, hit the jumper and causes teams match-up problems with his length and skill-set.

Lomomba had a breakout junior season for Madison Memorial, averaging close to 18 points per contest.  Another very versatile player, he can beat you off the dribble for a jumper or get in the lane and finish with a slam.  One of the most heavily recruited players in the state, the junior holds offers from several major NCAA Division I programs.

McKay won conference Player of the Year in the always tough Milwaukee City Conference.  The 6-5 senior averaged 23.2 points per game for a Pulaski team that struggled at times this season.  In six of Pulaski’s eight wins McKay went for better than 30 points.

Ritchay is a physical combo guard was named conference Player of the Year in the Wisconsin Valley.  The 6-2 senior guard averaged better than 19 points per game for a Rapids team that went 21-2 including a perfect 12-0 record in the WVC.

Tokoto, who recently committed to North Carolina, averaged 20.2 points per game and was named Greater Metro Conference Player of the Year.  The 6-6 wing forward is one of the most athletic players in the state and had a bevy of Division I offers from top programs around the country.

White was a big part of Milwaukee Riverside capturing its first Milwaukee City Conference title since 1947. The 6-4 wing averaged near 15 points per game and provided senior leadership to a team that featured no other seniors playing major minutes.

Yurk, a quick, skilled and heady 6-2 point guard, averaged 18.2 points per game for Sheboygan North.  A three-year varsity player, Yurk scored 36 points in an upset victory over league-champion De Pere earlier in the season.
