Four players led the Division 5 All-Star voting as a unanimous selection. Prentice senior Abbie Anderson, Siren senior Carley Emery, Black Hawk senior Rachel Rygh and Newman Catholic senior Taylor Thomas were all unanimous picks to the 2011 All-Star squad.

Anderson capped off quite a career at Prentice by averaging 16.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.2 steals per game in her final season in a Buccaneers uniform. The versatile 5-11 senior forward, two-time All-State nominee and UW-Eau Claire commit also led the Bucs to three straight Marawood North Conference titles and the school’s first state berth since 1993.

Emery led the entire state in scoring this year with just over 26 points per game, while also adding 5.3 steals and three rebounds per contest. The 5-6 senior guard also became just the 12th player in Wisconsin girls basketball history to cross the 2,000-point plateau, finishing her career at Siren seventh on the all-time state scoring list with 2,065 points as she led the Dragons to their fourth straight 20-win season and fourth straight West Lakeland title.

Rygh was the Warriors’ go-to offensive threat for much of the season, leading the team with 14.3 points while adding 3.6 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.3 assists. The 5-10 senior forward led Black Hawk to its first ever undefeated regular season this year and third straight state semifinal berth, while racking up a 76-6 overall record in her three-year varsity career for the Warriors.

Thomas is arguably the Division 5 girls basketball player with the highest stock, with a DI college scholarship offer to Green Bay awaiting the senior next season. And deservedly so, as 6-0 forward has led the Fighting Cardinals back to the state tournament this year, averaging a team-high 14.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while adding 1.9 assists and shooting over 80 percent from the free throw line.

The rest of the First Team consisted of Annie Block, Sr., Northwood; Jenna Brandt, Sr., Independence; Cassie Hallstrand, Sr., Prentice; Erica Hartke, Sr., Newman Catholic; Allison Ostrander, Sr., Seneca; Avery Steen, So., Luck; and Kendall Wienkes, Sr., Highland.

Block headed a senior class that was the winningest in Northwood girls basketball history, this season averaging 14 points, six rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game in her final season. The 5-9 forward helped the Evergreens win their second straight Central Lakeland title and second straight 20-win season at 21-4 overall.

Brandt averaged a double-double with 15.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and two steals per game to lead the Indees this season. The 5-10 senior forward manned the inside for the three-time defending Dairyland Small Conference champions, amassing an 84-15 record in her four seasons as a starter.

Hallstrand was just as instrumental in Prentice’s success in recent years, including three consecutive undefeated league records, a pair of 24-win seasons and a berth in the inaugural Division 5 state semifinals. The 5-10 forward averaged 14.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, three assists and 2.7 steals per game her senior year.

Hartke was another major reason for the Newman Catholic dominance in recent years, guiding the defending Division 4 state champs back to the Kohl Center in 2011. While the 5-8 senior swing player may have averaged just 9.8 points and just over four rebounds per game this year, those numbers speak little of the consistency and focus she brought to the floor each night.

Ostrander led Seneca to an impressive undefeated regular season and 25-1 season mark overall—its best record in school history. The 5-6 senior guard finished third in Division 5 scoring with 20.7 points per game and guided the Indians’ second straight undefeated Ridge & Valley Conference title.

Steen finished second in the entire state scoring race, ironically to a fellow West Lakeland Conference rival, by averaging 24.3 points and adding 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. The smooth, athletic 5-4 sophomore guard was the only underclassman named to the D5 All-State First Team and scored over half the Cardinals’ total points this season.

Wienkes paced the Six Rivers West co-champion Cardinals to a 20-5 regular season mark, matching Highland’s total wins from the previous four seasons combined. The athletic 5-11 forward, who will continue her athletic career on the volleyball court at IPFW next season, averaged a team-high 14.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, three assists, 2.5 blocks and 1.4 steals per game this year.
