In what is simply one of the most incredible statistical nights I have seen in high school football, we have a new new #2 on the all-time single game rushing list.

Earlier today we reported on Ozaukee's Devon Linzenmeyer, who rushed for 447 yards and 6 touchdowns on just 18 carries as the Warriors dominated North Fond du Lac 67-33. That performance was good for the second-highest single game rushing total in state history, behind only Donte Steward of Milwaukee Marshall, who went for 465 yards (on 43 carries) back in 2005.

In an amazing turn of events, Linzenmeyer's total is now just the third-best rushing performance of all time.

Kimberly's Alex Schuh (pictured at left) gained 448 yards with 6 touchdowns on 36 carries as the Papermakers won a shootout over D.C. Everest 52-40. Like Linzenmeyer, Schuh posted several big plays, including touchdown runs of 84, 67, 55, and 54 yards to go with a pair of 2 yard scoring plunges. He also added a pair of catches for 48 yards. There are conflicting reports that show Schuh with 450 yards, but we are currently going with the total reported in the local paper, the Appleton Post Crescent. We have contacted Kimberly head coach Steve Jones for verification however.

EDIT:  We have confirmed with Kimberly head coach Steve Jones that Schuh's total was 448 yards.

With the big game, Schuh now has 901 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns through Week 4. It is certainly an amazing start for a player that carried the ball sparingly last year behind 2,000-yard rusher Ben Wassink. In two conference games this season, Schuh has totaled 662 yards and 7 scores.

Unlike Linzenmeyer, Schuh was forced to stay on the field throughout the game as the Evergreens offense kept up with Kimberly in the second half. Schuh's 84-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter seemed to put the game away as it gave the Papermakers a 45-27 lead. However, D.C. Everest scored two touchdowns to make it 45-40, before Schuh's final TD, a two-yard scoring dive, provided the final margin of victory.

Linzenmeyer and the Warrior's day was a little less stressful, as they poured it on early and coasted home. And before you think that he and the Warriors were posting big totals late in the game, it was not that way according to the Sheboygan Press, as he had just three carries in the second half.

His 447 yards on just 18 carries is an average of 24.8 yards per carry. Five of his six touchdowns went for at least 50 yards, including a 95-yarder late in the second quarter.

Linzenmeyer was far from a one-man show. Fellow running back Ethan Brouilette ran for 132 yards and 3 touchdowns, and the Warriors rushed for an astounding 737 yards as a team, averaging 15 yards per carry.

It was certainly an incredible night for these two outstanding athletes and their teams, as the #2 and #3 single-game rushing performances in the history of high school football in Wisconsin took place on the same day.
