WVCA Week 2 Poll: DSHA, Milw. Lutheran climb up Top 10

The Week 2 Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association poll was released Tuesday, not surprisingly featuring several similar results as its inaugural poll. The most movement came in Division 1, thanks to the results from a handful of big tournaments last weekend.

Division 1

Divine Savior Holy Angels was this week’s big mover in Division 1, climbing six spots to No. 3 this week after a strong runner-up showing at the LaPorte Sprawl in West Bend this weekend. The Dashers, who fell to Catholic Memorial in the title match, fell in right behind Burlington and Menomonee Falls which finished No. 1 and 2 this week again. Nicolet moved up to No. 4 while Watertown made the move from Honorable Mention status to No. 9 this week. Neenah, which didn’t receive any votes last week, surged into the top 10 after defeating Kimberly last week.

Division 2


Catholic Memorial solidified its stronghold on the Division 2 state rankings by blasting to the championship at the prestigious LaPorte Sprawl. For the second straight week, the Crusaders edged out East Troy at No. 2, while Racine St. Catherine’s moved up two spots to No. 3. Notre Dame won the UW-Oshkosh Showdown last weekend and rose to No. 4 in the rankings while Kettle Moraine Lutheran dropped to No. 5. Milwaukee Lutheran was the division’s biggest mover, from Honorable Mention last week to No. 7 this week, ahead of Tomahawk and New Berlin West. McFarland, Oconto Falls and Big Foot shared the No. 10 spot with another handful of teams retaining Honorable Mention status.

Division 3


There was little movement in the Division 3 rankings this week, as the top five teams remained ranked in the top five. Grantsburg used a big win over Luck to remain unbeaten on the year and retained the No. 1 spot, while Wisconsin Heights flipped spots with Oostburg to take No. 2 this week. Regis and Washburn fell in at No. 4 and 5 respectively, and Southwestern and Deerfield switched poll places at No. 6 and No. 7 this week. Auburndale and Fennimore couldn’t break last week’s tie at No. 10, this week adding Oshkosh Lourdes into the mix for the final spot in the rankings.

Division 4


Despite being one of the smallest schools invited, Catholic Central finished second at the Oshkosh Showdown last weekend and once again was the obvious choice to hold this week’s No. 1 spot in Division 4. Undefeated Living Word Lutheran, which took care of MCC North rival Lake Country Lutheran last week, remained No. 2 while McDonell Central, Hillsboro and Tigerton rounded out the top five. Previously unranked Owen-Withee earned some recognition this week surging to No. 6, ahead of Turtle Lake and Sheboygan Lutheran. Surprise Wabeno improved to No. 9 this week while Luck’s losses to top-five D3 teams Grantsburg and Washburn this week dropped it into a tie with Cochrane-Fountain City at No. 10.
