BREAKING NEWS: Judge orders Messmer/Shorewood co-op to be eligible for postseason

According to James Wold of the Beaver Dam Citizen, Judge Kevin Mertens has ordered the WIAA to consider the Messmer/Shorewood football co-op eligible for the postseason. Wold attended the hearing in Milwaukee today that wrapped up two days of testimony and five days of delays in the release of the football playoff brackets.

"The judge granted an injunction prohibiting the WIAA from releasing playoff brackets without Messmer/Shorewood included," Messmer legal counsel Richard Anderson said Tuesday afternoon. "Furthermore, he issued an interim order that they must consider Messmer/Shorewood eligible for the playoffs."

Therefore, for all intents and purposes, MessWood is in the playoffs, bumping Milwaukee South out. There have been indications South has been monitoring these proceedings, and there is always a chance they could file an injunction of their own, so we may not be out of the water yet.

According to Wold, brackets for Divisions 1 and 2 should be released by the WIAA soon.
