Team of the Week - Week 9: Highland Cardinals
The Highland Cardinals have been selected as the Week 9 WSN Team of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. Highland shocked previously unbeaten and Division 7 top-ranked Potosi to claim a share of the Six Rivers title. They were selected from a strong group of nominees in Week 9. The Cardinals received 1361 votes, or 34.1% of the total votes cast, edging Waterford, who received 23.7%.
Highland had not made the playoffs since 2005 and had won just four conference games in the last four years coming into this season. Friday night head coach Shaun Reuter and the Cardinals completed an amazing turnaround by defeating unbeaten and Division 7 top-ranked Potosi 22-14 to claim a share of the Six Rivers title with the Chieftains. Workhorse running back Tyler Kleist scored all three Highland touchdowns as he carried the ball 29 times for 123 yards.
