Chloe Wanink of Cameron has been selected as the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for December 18-25 following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. Wanink tallied 64 points in a pair of wins last week to help the Cameron girls basketball team to a 5-1 start. She was chosen from a strong group of nominees last week. Wanink received 953 votes, or 61.4% of the total votes cast, easily out-distancing USM boys hockey player Bryan Botcher who received 31.6%.

Diaper dandy alert!  Freshman Chloe Wanink started the season strong but exploaded the past week.  In a December 20th win over Shell Lake she scored 27 points on 11-14 shooting in a 55-24 victory.  She followed it up with 37 points in an 84-62 victory over Chetek-Weyerhaeuser on the 22nd on 12-18 shooting and added 6 boards and 5 assists.  For the year she is averaging 20.3 points per game and has the Comets out to a 5-1 start. Wanink is an incredibly talented athlete with skills that go beyond just the hardwood. Last year she was the state champion in the NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick competition for the girls 12-13 age group, and her score was good enough to qualify for nationals (only 4 athletes from each group qualify). She was also the state champion as an 11-year old but did not advance to nationals that season.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named Army National Guard Athlete of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the next week's nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
