Chippewa Falls' Tyson Kalien has been selected as the top senior Shooter as part of the WSN Senior Boys Basketball Awards presented by Taco Bell. Kalien was a unanimous selection.

Kalien is an outstanding long-distance shooter with good size and physical strength. He earned Player of the Year honors in the Big Rivers Conference as a junior and senior. Scored 52 points (including 6 triples) in a victory over Eau Claire North as a junior and 43 in a win over La Crosse Logan as a senior.

Kalien is among the state's scoring leaders this year, averaging 25.6 points per game. He holds what is believed to be northwest Wisconsin's single season record for most made three-pointers with 96 he hit this year and 272 in his career. He was 40% from behind the arc this year and 81% from the free throw line.

"I have never seen a player at the high school level shoot the ball as effortlessly and accurately from long-range as he does," Chippewa Falls head coach Luke Madsen said. "He routinely made three's from 25 to 28 feet in games while shooting 40% from behind the arc on the season. He absolutely changes the way teams have had to defend us."

Finalists for the award were Kalien, Austin Ariens of Madison Edgewood, Chris Golden of Wisconsin Lutheran, Jamall Taylor of Dominican, and Corey Vaassen of Cuba City.

The voting panel for the WSN Senior Basketball Awards consisted of:  Nicholas Kartos, WSN President and Founder; Travis Wilson, WSN Content Manager; Mark Miller, WSN Boys Basketball Editor; John Casper Jr., Eau Claire Leader-Telegram
