Sam Dekker of Sheboygan Lutheran, David Neis of Benton and Matt Van Scyoc of Green Lake are the unanimous selections to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 5 All-State Team.

Dekker (6-8) is a skilled wing player who can score from downtown as well as make mid-range jump shots. A University of Wisconsin recruit, Dekker leads the state in scoring at 32.5 points per game. Dekker scored 58 points in a win over Random Lake in February, and led the Crusaders to a Central Lakeshore Conference title and WIAA State Tournament berth.

Neis (5-10), a four-year varsity performer for Benton, uses his quickness and high-skill level to get to the basket or make mid-range jump shots. Benton won its fourth straight title in the Western Division of the Six Rivers Conference behind the strong play of Neis, who is a four-time first-team all-conference selection. He averaged 18.8 ppg and set a single-season school record for points scored with 507.

Van Scyoc (6-6) is an athletic combination forward who is solid in most aspects of the game. He scores well facing the basket, off the dribble and on the blocks. He averaged 24.3 points and 13.3 rebounds and will play NCAA Division I basketball at The Citadel.

Other first-team selections include Racine Lutheran senior Peter Drummond, Randolph junior Aaron Retzlaff, McDonell Central senior Kyle Cody, Clayton senior Matt Gretzlock, Prentice senior Brian Kraegenbrink, Racine Lutheran senior Ty Demuth and Drummond junior Ben Best.

Drummond (5-10) is a four-year varsity performer who led Racine Lutheran to a share of the Southern Division title in the Midwest Classic Conference with rival Racine St. Catherine’s. He led Lutheran in scoring at 15.8 ppg while also handing out 3.3 apg.

Retzlaff (6-4) led Randolph to yet another title in the Central Division of the Trailways Conference by averaging team-highs of 12.5 ppg and 7.0 rpg. An outstanding interior player with solid footwork and soft hands, Retzlaff is extremely difficult to defend around the basket because of his strength and quickness.

Cody (6-7) is perhaps the top three-sport senior athlete in Wisconsin as he also excels in football as a quarterback and baseball as a pitcher. Headed to the University of Kentucky on a baseball scholarship, Cody led McDonell Central to the championship in the Western Division of the Cloverbelt Conference by averaging 20.8 ppg and 11.3 rpg.

Gretzlock (6-4) helped Clayton to a 24-2 record and the title in the Central Division of the Lakeland Conference. The Bears lost to Drummond in a Division 5 sectional final despite a team-high 12 points from Gretlock.

Kraegenbrink (5-11) was chosen as the Player of the Year in the Northern Division of the Marawood Conference after helping the Buccaneers to the league title by two games over runners-up Chequamegon and Abbotsford. He averaged 12.3 ppg and 6.2 apg for coach Jerry Shoup.

Demuth (6-3) is a player who does a bit of everything for highly regarded Racine Lutheran. He scores (12.1 ppg), rebounds (9.2 rpg), passes (4.8 apg) and defends well for the Crusaders.

Best (6-6) led Drummond to the WIAA State Tournament by averaging 18.3 ppg and 10.6 rpg. He shot 64 percent from the field and 57 percent from the free-throw line.
