Prep Notes: Little Chute's Botz named Player of the Year in Eastern Valley; Badger Conference releases all-league teams

Little Chute junior Turner Botz has been voted Player of the Year in the Eastern Valley Conference by the league’s nine coaches.
 
Botz (6-6) helped Little Chute to the title in the Eastern Valley Conference and a 24-2 record by averaging 19.2 ppg and 6.0 rpg. An athletic, versatile forward who is equally comfortable playing in the paint or stepping outside to take mid-range jump shots, Botz has Division I scholarship offers from four schools, including Green Bay.
 
Other first-team members on the all-Eastern Valley squad include Little Chute junior Kenneth Lowe, Berlin junior Toby Hegner, Winneconne senior Brad Koth and Ripon junior Bryce Bauman.
 
Second-team members include Fox Valley Lutheran seniors Austin Eisenmann and Jon Willman, Xavier junior Brady Johnson and Freedom seniors Eric Sajdak and Craig Schommer.
 
Third-team members include Little Chute junior Mitch Ciske, Clintonville senior Xavier Fletcher, Ripon junior Mason Stangl, Xavier junior Seth Maertz and Xavier senior Dru Harris.
 
Honorable mention honors went to Berlin junior Michael Falk, Clintonville junior Jesse Brauer, Fox Valley Lutheran senior Mitch Skarban, Freedom senior Bob Hofacker, Little Chute junior Jed Albers, Waupaca freshman Brando Vasquez and Winneconne junior Dylan Hecker.
 
McGann, Staffeil, Tagarelli unanimous first-team picks in Badger North
 
Baraboo senior Sean McGann, DeForest senior Brandon Staffeil and Waunakee senior Joe Tagarelli were voted unanimous first-team all-league picks in the Northern Division of the Badger Conference by the league’s seven coaches.
 
McGann (6-4) averaged a team-best 22.5 points per game and went over the 1,000-point mark for his outstanding career in the process.
 
Staffeil (6-5), who will play college basketball at NCAA Division III power Massachusetts Institute of Technology, shot 58 percent from the field and led DeForest in both scoring (19.2 ppg) and rebounding (9.3 rpg).
 
Tagarelli (6-6) had a breakout season for Waunakee after being the sixth man for the Warriors a year ago. He averaged 19.9 ppg and led the school to yet another title in the Northern Division of the Badger Conference. Tagarelli will join the Milwaukee basketball program as a preferred walkon in the fall.
 
Other first-team members on the all-Badger North team include Reedsburg junior Capreace Salinas and Waunakee junior Will Decorah.
 
Second-team members include Mount Horeb senior Josh Bollig, Portage junior Daniel Beck, Portage sophomore Adam Considine, Reedsburg senior Jacob Nachtigal and Sauk Prairie senior Sam Baier.
 
Honorable mention honors went to DeForest senior Trent Pickarts, DeForest sophomore Jeff Berry, DeForest junior Brett Minick, Mount Horeb junior Brett Jerdee, Mount Horeb junior Shane Collins, Mount Horeb senior Matt Fargo, Portage junior Ian Taylor, Reedsburg sophomore Nate Runde, Waunakee senior Ben Cable and Waunakee senior Tim Keenan.
 
Arians, Kowalkowski earn unanimous first-team honors in Badger South
 
Madison Edgewood senior Austin Arians and Stoughton senior Conner Kowalkowski were voted unanimous first-team all-league picks in the Southern Division of the Badger Conference by the league’s seven coaches.
 
Arians (6-5), who has signed with Milwaukee, is a dynamic long-distance shooter who has improved his overall athleticism and defense. A three-year varsity performer for the Crusaders, Arians averaged 17.2 ppg to lead the team.
 
Kowalkowski (6-1) averaged 11.8 ppg while helping Stoughton to the Badger North championship and a spot in the WIAA Division 2 sectional finals. The Vikings finished 21-5, losing to DeForest in the sectional title game.
 
Other first-team members on the all-Badger South team include Fort Atkinson junior Tanner Boos, Milton senior Sam McCann and Stoughton senior Max Fuller.
 
Second-team members include Madison Edgewood senior Jack Zwettler, Milton senior Erick Bolden, Monona Grove junior Brett Percy, Oregon senior David Solberg and Stoughton senior Cole Brusegar.
 
Honorable mention honors went to Fort Atkinson sophomore Alex Bakken, Fort Atkinson senior Jimmy Hanson, Madison Edgewood senior Chris Wells, Madison Edgewood senior Spencer Brink and Madison Edgewood junior Matt Ripple, Monona Grove senior Mitch Geiger, Monroe junior Alex Barenklau, Oregon seniors Nate Benson and Brad Sterling and Stoughton senior Casey Schultz.
