Bridget Pethke of New London girls basketball has been selected as the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for the week of March 19th through the 25th following a statewide vote on WisSports.net.  The standout defender for the undefeated Bulldogs clamped down on Miss Basketball Nicole Bauman in the Divison 2 state championship to secure a second consecutive title.  Pethke led all nominees with 2,244 of 4,241 total votes (52.9%), but her main competition was Kewaunee's Jill Kleiman (1,631).

The Bulldogs completed an undefeated campaign by knocking off the other undefeated team in the division, New Berlin Eisenhower.  The Lions scored a season-low 39 points and Wisconsin recruit Nicole Bauman was limited to 14 points and committed 10 turnovers.  Pethke, one of the Bulldogs top defenders, was instrumental in both games this weekend, breaking the state-record with 9 steals in the title game.  The senior had an assist, a steal and a made free throw late in the fourth to solidify the win.

Remember, the only way your favorite player can be named Army National Guard Athlete of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the next week's nominees to be posted Sunday afternoon.
