Favorite Sport: “I don’t think I can pick a favorite. Hockey is a lot different than running. Hockey gives me a break from running. Hockey is more of a team sport and running is more individual. I couldn’t say I favor one over the other. I’m excited for each season when it comes.”

Best Part of High School Sports: “Probably the camaraderie with different girls and boys in the sports. The friendships and memories I’ve made over the years have been great. I am also very competitive so I enjoy the competitive aspect of the sports.”

Best Advice from a High School Coach: “All of my coaches are big advocates of putting in a lot of hard work and remaining humble. Working hard is what really pays off in the end. You have to be willing to put in the work.”

Most Memorable Moment in High School Sports: “I would say the moment that sticks out the most for me was winning the state championship in hockey my senior year. We’ve been in the state-championship game the past four years and to win finally win it this year was a great accomplishment.”

Best Part of Playing Three Sports: “I really enjoy just being with my teammates and my accomplishment. Coming out and trying to do something better the next time. Seeing my improvements over my four years has been awesome. I have a busy schedule, but when I go to a sports practice at the end of the day, it’s fun to get a workout in and be with my friends.”

Toughest Part of Playing Three Sports: “The toughest part is time management. Being in three sports, you don’t have a lot of down time. Getting the school work done and training can be kind of difficult some times.”

Favorite Opponents: “In hockey, it would be St. Croix Valley Fusion. They are competitive every year and it’s a big deal to play them. In track, I don’t really have a favorite opponent, but I do like to go up against top-notch opponents.”

Favorite College Teams: Wisconsin Badger in men’s and women’s hockey.

Favorite Professional Teams: Green Bay Packers, Detroit Red Wings.

Cumulative GPA: 4.0.

Toughest Individual You’ve Competed Against: “We are from the same city so Ashley Eckhoff from Wausau East is somebody I like to go up against. She is in cross country and also runs the mile and two mile in track.”

College Plans: “I plan to run cross country and track at Marquette. I hope to major in biology, probably pre-med.” Editor’s Note: Poirier received a scholarship to run cross country and track at Marquette.

Activities Outside of Sports: National Honor Society, Link Crew, Safe School Ambassadors, volunteer at Aspirus Hospital, volunteer at Learn To Skate, teach Sunday School at Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Wausau.
