Below are the nominees for the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for the week of April 23th through the 29th.  Voting is below and will be open until Thursday at 4:00pm with the winner announced Friday morning.

Ryan DeBauche, De Pere baseball – The Redbirds (11-3, 10-2 Fox River Classic) went 5-0 last week with four big wins over Manitowoc Lincoln (6-0), Green Bay Southwest (5-1) and twice over Green Bay East (11-2 and 11-0).  De Pere only struggled in a 7-6 decision over conference foe Pulaski.  The Redbirds were down 1-6 to the Red Raiders after four innings before charging back in the final three.  DeBauche, a junior, hit a single in the seventh inning to drive home the winning run for De Pere.  He also accounted for a two-run single in the Green Bay Southwest game on Tuesday.

Jalen Gillie, Milwaukee Riverside boys track and field – The Tigers traveled to three different varsity track meets this week, beginning in Greendale and ending in Somers for the Shoreland Lutheran Pacer Relays.  Gillie, the defending Division 1 champion in the 100m and 200m, just made his return to the team two weeks ago but quickly dusted off any rust.  The senior won both events at the Greendale meet in 10.89 and 22.18 seconds, respectively, and then won the 100m again in East Troy (10.94 seconds).  Both times currently top the state for FAT/automatic timed races.  His 400m relay also topped the state on Friday with a time of 42.4 seconds.

Molly Griep, Whitewater girls track and field – The Whippets hosted McFarland this past Tuesday in a dual before heading to Blackhawk Stadium in Fort Atkinson to take part in the Blackhawk’s invitational.  Griep, a junior thrower, won the shot put (41’-¾) and discus (149’-11) at home, and repeated the feat later in the week, this time throwing for 41’-7½ and 152’-1, respectively.  The latter throw places her first in the state this year and 11th all-time for girls.

Claire Mohrfeld, Menomonee Falls softball – The Indians improved to 6-1 (4-0 Greater Metro) this past week after knocking off Sussex Hamilton on Monday, 18-13, and then traveling to West Allis Hale Friday to defeat the Huskies 4-0.  Despite not recording any statistics in the latter game, the sophomore infielder went 3-for-5 against Hamilton with 3 RBIs and one home run.
Meg Riebau, Appleton North girls soccer – The Lightning (10-1-1, 2-0-1 Fox Valley Association) went undefeated last week to remain atop the conference standings.  North knocked off Appleton West, 7-0, on Tuesday before heading to the Terrors’ invitational on Friday and Saturday, where they defeated Green Bay Preble (3-0), Xavier (3-1) and West Allis Hale (8-0).  Riebau, a junior forward, led the way with seven goals and two assists in the four contests, pushing her point total to 34 on the season.
