Spring Baseball State Tournament information: tickets, viewing, schedule

THE CHAMPIONSHIPS:  The 65th Annual Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Spring Baseball State Tournament will take place Tuesday-Thursday, June 12-14, at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, Wis. Ticket prices for the tourney are $8 per session and $14 for an all-day admission ticket. Tickets are available only at the stadium.

CHAMPIONSHIPS SCHEDULE AND PAIRINGS:  The State Spring Baseball Tournament features four divisions. The single elimination tournament includes eight teams in Division 1 and four each in Divisions 2, 3 and 4. The second game of each session  will follow the first game.

ALL GAMES STREAMED LIVE:  The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals of all four divisions of the WIAA State Spring Baseball Tournament will be streamed live on the Internet at foxsportswisconsin.com.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES ON FS WISCONSIN:  Watch the delayed broadcast of the WIAA State Spring Baseball Championships on FS Wisconsin. The Division 1 title game will be aired on June 30 at 1 p.m. The Division 2 championship game will be aired on June 30 at 3:30 p.m. The Division 3 title game is scheduled to be aired on June 28 at 7 p.m., and the broadcast of the Division 4 championship will air on June 21 at 7 p.m. Check local cable listings for the channel in your area.     

TEAM TOURNAMENT HISTORY:  The WIAA has been sponsoring the State Spring Baseball Tournament since 1948. Appleton West has won the most State championships with seven, followed by Catholic Central, Nekoosa and Sun Prairie with five and then Eau Claire with four titles. La Crosse Central has appeared in the most State Tournaments with 18. Milwaukee Bradley has reached State 15 times; Appleton West has appeared in 14; and now Oconomowoc and Stevens Point are next with 13 State appearances.

LAST YEAR:  Eau Claire North won the Division 1 championship with an 11-1, six-inning triumph over Neenah in the  title game. Ripon won the Division 2 title with a 12-2, six-inning victory over Spooner in the championship final. Winnebago Lutheran captured the Division 3 championship with a 10-6 decision over Pardeeville in the final, and Catholic Central won the Division 4 championship for the second straight season with a 9-2 victory over McDonell Central in the championship game.

THE DIVISION 1 FIELD:  Stevens Point is making its 13th appearance in the State Tournament and its first since 2004. The Panthers won State championships in 1979, 1987 and 1989, and were runner-up in 1975 and 1984. They are the champions of the Wisconsin Valley Conference this season, and they advanced through the Chippewa Falls Sectional with a 4-2 win over Hudson in the final. Oconomowoc is back at State for the first time since the second of back-to-back appearances in 2001 and for the 13th time overall. The Racoons won consecutive  Class A championships in 1980 and 1981 and the State title in 1959. In addition, they placed runner-up in 1991, 1992 and 1996. They represent the Beloit Memorial Sectional after ousting Madison La Follette 3-2 in the final. They finish fourth in the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference standings this season. Middleton is making its 11th appearance in the State Tournament and its first since 2009. The Cardinals won the State title in 2003 and have finished runner-up three times, in 1968, 1977 and 1995. They placed third in the Big Eight Conference this spring and advanced through the Sauk Prairie Sectional with an 11-1 win over Waunakee in the final. Sun Prairie qualifies for the State Tournament for the 10th time and for the first time since 2009. The Cardinals have been crowned champions five times, winning the Class A title in 1974 and capturing Division 1 championships in 1994, 1997, 2005 and 2006. They defeated Oshkosh North 9-5 in the Fond du Lac Sectional final. The Cardinals are the champions of the Big Eight Conference this spring. Bay Port returns to State for the ninth time and for the first time since winning the second of two consecutive championships in 2010. They finished second in the Fox River Classic Conference this spring and have qualified for State with a 2-1 win over D.C. Everest in the sectional final played at D.C. Everest. Hartford returns to the State Tournament for the third season in a row and for the fifth time overall. The Orioles advanced to the semifinals in 2002 and again last season, which accounts for their furthest advancement in the tournament. They were third in the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference standings this season and have qualified out of the Milwaukee Bay View Sectional with a 16-0, five-inning rout over Milwaukee Riverside in the final. Kenosha Bradford makes its second consecutive appearance in the State Tournament and its third overall. The Red Devils won the State title in its first appearance in 2008. They are the champions of the Southeast Conference this season. They edged Burlington 5-4 in the final of the Badger Sectional to gain entry into the final field of eight. Appleton North has qualified for State again after making its first-ever appearance last year. The Lightning advanced to the semifinals before being eliminated from title contention. They earn the repeat engagement with a 12-7 win over Hortonville in the Kimberly Sectional final. The Lightning finished second in the Fox Valley Association standings this spring.

THE DIVISION 2 FIELD:  Fox Valley Lutheran qualifies for the tournament field for the third time. The Foxes only other appearances came in 2007 and 2009 and resulted in defeats in the semifinals. They earned their berth with a 14-7 win over Notre Dame in the Marinette Sectional final to advance to the semifinals this season. They are the champions of the Eastern Valley Conference.  Portage is making its second appearance in the State Tournament. The Warriors only other experience at State came in 2006 when they were crowned the Division 2 champions. They finished in a second place tie in the Northern Badger Conference standings this season. The Warriors gained entry into the tournament field by winning the sectional final played at Portage with a 7-6 win over Lodi in nine innings. Ellsworth makes its inaugural appearance at Grand Chute following its 5-1 win over Somerset in the Barron Sectional final. The Panthers placed second behind Division 3 qualifier Prescott in the Middle Border Conference. Racine St. Catherine’s is also appearing in the State Tournament for the first time. The Angels advance to the State semifinals by virtue of their eight-inning, 4-3 win over Waupun in the Whitewater Sectional final. They are the champions in the South Division of the Midwest Classic Conference. As a former member of WISAA, the Angels won six titles (1968, 1971-73, 1975-76).  

THE DIVISION 3 FIELD:  Prescott will make its first State appearance since 1999 and its seventh overall. The Cardinals won the Division 2 title in 1994 and finished runner-up in 1999. They also finished second in Class C in 1988. They earned their berth this year by defeating Grantsburg 4-2 in the Cumberland Sectional final. The Cardinals are the champions of the Middle Border Conference this spring. St. Mary Central returns to State for the fourth time, having made three straight appearances from 2001-03. The final year of that string resulted in a runner-up finish. The Zephyrs beat Pacelli 4-1 in the final of the Pacelli Sectional to advance to the semifinals. They are the 2012 champions of the Olympian Conference. The  co-op of Oshkosh Lourdes/Valley Christian will make its first-ever appearance in the State Tournament. The Knights earned the berth by ousting Deerfield 7-4 in the Horicon Sectional final. They tied for third place in the North Division of the Trailways  Conference this spring. Parkview is also making its first-ever appearance at State. The Vikings finished third in the Rock Valley Conference standings this season and booked their reservation for the State Tournament with a 4-1 win over Arcadia in the Riverdale Sectional final.

THE DIVISION 4 FIELD:  Greenwood is returning to the State Tournament for the first time since winning their Class C title in 1990, which was preceded by a title in 1988 and a runner-up finish in 1986 to account for each of the three previous experiences. The Indians captured first place in the Eastern Division of the Cloverbelt Conference this season. They earned the opportunity to continue playing for a State title with a 5-4 win over Bruce in the Bruce Sectional final. Coleman returns to State for the second year in a row after qualifying in Division 3 a year ago. Both of the Cougars past experiences resulted in losses in the semifinals. The Cougars edged Rosholt 3-2 to earn a return engagement in the semifinals. They are the champions of the Marinette & Oconto Conference this spring. Pittsville will be making only its second appearance at State. The first came in 2006 when the Panthers lost in the Division 3 semifinals. This year’s road to State was paved by a 2-0 blanking of De Soto in the Brookwood Sectional final.  The Panthers placed third in the South Division of the Marawood Conference this season. Johnson Creek makes its third State appearance and the first since 2007 when the Bluejays celebrated a Division 4 championship. The only other appearance came back in 1953. They finished second in the South Division of the Trailways Conference this year. They routed Shullsburg/Benton  24-4 in the sectional final hosted by Catholic Central to qualify for State.
