Below are the nominees for the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for the week of June 4th through the 10th.  Voting is below and will be open until Thursday at 4:00pm with the winner announced Friday morning.

Sawyer Ladick, Pittsville baseball – The Panthers (18-6, 9-4 Marawood-South) will be making their second appearance in the state tournament (2006) next week after knocking off Cashton, 5-3, and De Soto, 2-0, at sectionals on Tuesday.  Sawyer scored off of a Thomas Hughes’ RBI double in the second inning of the De Soto game to help put Pittsville ahead for the rest of the low-scoring contest.  Against Cashton, the junior had a two-run single fourth and earned a save on the pitching mound with five strikeouts and no hits surrendered.

Angela Lang, Stevens Point softball – The Panthers (22-5, 11-1 Wisconsin Valley) will attempt to defend their 2011 title and with their ninth state championship next week after advancing to the state tournament with wins over Oshkosh West, 5-1, and Beaver Dam, 3-0, at sectionals.  Angela allowed just five hits and had five strikeouts last Monday against the Wildcats and then allowed just three hits in seven innings against the Beavers.  The junior pitcher did not bat in either game.

Emily Leinfelder, Divine Savior Holy Angels girls soccer – The Dashers (17-4-2, 6-1-0 Greater Metro) will attempt to win their third state title in five years next week after defeating Wauwatosa East, 1-0, and Brookfield East, 2-0, at sectionals this Thursday and Saturday.  Emily failed to score in the Wauwatosa East game but had just the second goal of the game against Brookfield East to solidify a state tournament bid.  That goal was just Emily’s fourth of the season.

Carley Pfannerstill, Grafton girls soccer – The Black Hawks (19-6-2, 4-3-0 North Shore) advanced to the state tournament for the first time in school history this past week by defeating Menomonee Falls and top-seeded Cedarburg.  Carley had one assist in a 2-1 win over the Indians on Thursday and then “scored the first goal of the match, assisted on the second, created a penalty kick goal, and tallied the match's final goal” against the favored-Bulldogs two days later, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Jordan White, Arrowhead baseball – The Warhawks (7-3, 6-3 Classic Eight) went 3-1 last week in the third week of summer baseball.  After a Monday loss to conference-foe Catholic Memorial, 5-8, Arrowhead reeled of three wins against Waukesha South, South Milwaukee and a Friday rematch with Catholic Memorial.  Jordan struck out seven batters and allowed just five hits in a 17-1 victory over Waukesha South on Thursday; he added a hit and two RBIs on offense.  In the second game against the Crusaders, a 4-3 win, he went two-for-four to lead the team.  He did not pitch in the first Catholic Memorial game and there
