Sawyer Ladick of Pittsville baseball has been selected as the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for the week of June 4 through the 10th following a statewide vote on WisSports.net.  Sawyer was effective on the mound and the batter’s box for the state-qualifying Panthers last week.  He led all nominees with 2,724 of 4,955 total votes (55%) while DHSA’s Emily Leinfelder was second with 1,765.

The Panthers (18-7, 9-4 Marawood-South) made their second appearance in the state tournament (2006) this past week after knocking off Cashton, 5-3, and De Soto, 2-0, at sectionals last Tuesday.  Sawyer scored off of a Thomas Hughes’ RBI double in the second inning of the De Soto game to help put Pittsville ahead for the rest of the low-scoring contest.  Against Cashton, the junior had a two-run single in the fourth and earned a save on the pitching mound with five strikeouts and no hits surrendered.

Remember, the only way your favorite player can be named Army National Guard Athlete of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the next week's nominees to be posted Sunday afternoon.
