Waukesha and Reedsburg will be the sites of outstanding girls high school basketball tournaments this weekend, with elite teams from all corners of the state participating in both events.
WisSports.net will be on hand to capture video from both events, with highlights to be posted beginning next week. However, if you are available, it is highly recommended to get out and take in games at either location if you are in the area.
Wisconsin Varsity Invitational in Waukesha
The Center Court facility in Waukesha is the site of the Wisconsin Varsity Invitational sponsored by Wisconsin Impact and Recruit Wisconsin. 32 of the states top Division 1 and 2 programs will compete at the event on Saturday, June 30th and Sunday, July 1st.
Three of the four teams that made it to state in Division 1 will be there, including champion De Pere along with semi-finalists Oshkosh West and Middleton. Division 2 runner-up New Berlin Eisenhower is also in the field.
All told the 32 teams in the event were responsible for 558 wins last year (against just 220 losses), for an average of 17.4 wins per team. Nine of the squads eclipsed the 20-win mark in 2011-12. 17 of the teams have made at least one state tournament appearance since 2005.
The tournament is set up bracket-style, with every team guaranteed five games. Teams were divided into regions to balance teams competitively and geographically. No two teams from the same conference are in the same region. Also, all first round games feature a team from the Milwaukee metro area versus a team from outside the city.
Action gets underway Saturday at 9 am and continues through Sunday, with the championship game slated for approximately 4:30.
The Center Court facility features five courts with plenty of seating and is located at 815 Northview Road in Waukesha.

Reedsburg Tournament
Head coach Mark Simon and the Reedsburg Beavers girls basketball team put on an outstanding tournament in last year's inaugural Reedsburg Varsity Summer Tournament, with 16 of the top teams in the state competing in 55 games over three days. Last year's group averaged 18.75 wins the year before.
The 2012 event is shaping up to be just as good. While the number of teams has gone to 11, those squads are every bit as good as last year's. In fact, they average 20 wins from the 2011-12 campaign, with seven of the 11 teams reaching 20 victories last year (and an 8th that finished with 19). Included in the group is Neillsville, who went unbeaten on the way to a Division 4 state title last year. Also, the host Beavers advanced to the Division 2 state tournament. Adams-Friendship finished the regular season unbeaten before falling to Richland Center in the sectional finals. Speaking of the Hornets, they are once again in the tournament after a season that saw them make it to the sectional finals before falling in overtime to East Troy. Ladysmith made it to the sectional finals also and return all but one player (and 90% of their scoring) from a year ago.
This year's field includes:
Neillsville 28-0
AF 24-1
Ladysmith 24-2
Reedsburg 23-4
RC 22-4
Colfax 21-4
