Germantown overcomes 33-pt effort from Burton to top Milw. Vincent in Whiz Kids final

Indiana recruit Luke Fischer got Germantown off to a good start Thursday evening during the championship game of the Whiz Kids League of Champions at Milwaukee School of Engineering.
 
The 6-foot-10 senior scored 15 of Germantown’s first 23 points as the defending WIAA Division 1 state champions took a 23-8 lead over Milwaukee Vincent en route to a 71-51 victory.
 
Marquette recruit Deonte Burton (6-4) led all scorers with 33 points and helped Vincent rally within six points in the second half, but Germantown went on a 6-0 run to put the game out of reach.
 
Germantown finished 11-1 in the Whiz Kids League while Vincent went 10-2.
 
Fischer finished with 23 points to lead Germantown while LaMonte Bearden added 21, Jake Showalter 10, Bryan Bearden seven, Jon Averkamp six and Even Wesenberg two.

Jabari Hobson had seven for Vincent, which also got four points from Jamarice Thomas and three points from Marcus White.
