Team Wisconsin traveled to Eden Praire Minnesota to play to team Minnesota in the annual Border Battle between the top softball seniors in the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin on July 10th.
The first game was a battle of the Gatorade Player of the year in Wisconsin Kristin Wood and Minnesota. Kirstin Wood (Wilmot HS) Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the year Minnesota's Nikki Anderson.  Wood will play collegiately at Northwestern and Anderson will play at Minnesota.
It was easy to see early on that it would be a pitcher’s duel.  Both pitcher’s were tough to even put the ball in play on.
In the second inning Minnesota’s Natalie Kalmes doubled and scored on a two-out error.  Wisconsin finally scored in the 4th inning when Ashley Baker singled and later scored on a single by Abby Hanson.  Wisconsin took the lead in the 7th when Marrissa Michaelkiewicz singled in Sara Sorenson with two outs in the 7th.
It appeared Wisconsin would win the game. However with two outs and two strikes in the bottom half of the 7th, Taylor Lemay blasted a game tying home run.  It had been decided before the game that not more than 8 innings would be played and after 8 inning neither team would score as game 1 ended in a tie wasting two great performances by Wood and Anderson.
Baker went 2x2 for Wisconsin while other hits were recorded by Abby Hansen, Marissa Michaelkiewicz and Emily Holdorf.
Kristen Wood hurled eight innings allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, fanned 14 and walked two.
In the second game of the twinbill, Minnesota scored one run in the 3rd 4th and 5th innings as Coley Reis from Mankato East cruised to a nine strike out, no walk shut out. The final was 3-0. The Wisconsin girls could not muster up anything on the Mankato State recruit from Mankato.  Merina Young took the loss for Wisconsin despite her outstanding four innings of work. Nicole Schmidt finished out the game for Wisconsin in the circle.
Wisconsin collected four hits in the game with Abby Hansen getting one, Merina Young had one, Kristen Wood got one as did Alecia Fabor. Young allowed just two hits and one of the runs she allowed was unearned. Schmidt allowed one run on five hits in three innings of work.
The team was coached by Tom Drohner of SPASH and Jared Faherty of Chippewa Falls. The team was sponsored by the WFSCA.
