Athlete of the Week Oct. 1-7: Seth Maertz, Xavier
Seth Maertz of Xavier boys soccer has been selected as the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for the week of October 1 through 7th following a statewide vote on WisSports.net.
There were a total of 3980 votes, Maertz finished with 1476 while Greg Borsari, Milwaukee Pius boys soccer, finished second with 1221.
Xavier (16-4-1, 8-0) ranked #1 in the final WSCA D2 Poll beat Fox Valley Lutheran and Slinger last week. Maertz scored the go-ahead goal in the Hawks victory over Slinger on Saturday to extend Xavier's winning streak to 11.
The Hawks are headed for sectionals after wins over Waupaca and Fox Valley Lutheran in regionals.
Remember, the only way your favorite player can be named Army National Guard Athlete of the Week is to vote and spread the word. Look for next week's nominees to be posted on Sunday evening.
