Division 3 Semi-Final Notes

Kewaunee gets past Lodi 

In a contest between one one of top ranked teams, Kewaunee, and the sleeper team in Division 3, Lodi, the Storm was able to use their solid play to reach the Division 3 championship game. 

Kewaunee led 7-4 after the first quarter and outscored the Blue Devils in the other three quarters as well and went on to win 40-27.

The Storm led 20-14 at halftime with senior Jill Kleiman having 8 points, 3 assists and 2 steals. Kewaunee shot 32% for the half. Lodi on the other hand shot 33% with junior Gretchen Schutz totaling 7 points and 2 assist at intermission.

While the Storm were outscored 16-12 in the paint, the play of senior forwards Kelsey Stangel and Alex Richard in the second half were key to Kewaunee extending their lead getting the win. 

Lodi turned the ball over 18 times while Kewaunee finished with 13. The Storm had a 12 to 10 edge in points off turnovers. 

Stangel led the Storm with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Richard added 14 points and 4 steals. 

No Blue Devils finished in double-figures. Schutz had a team-high 7 points. She also finished with 5 assists and 3 steals. 

Kewaunee will try to make it back-to-back Division 3 titles on Saturday.

East Troy snaps Neillsville's long winning streak

Behind a big third quarter East Troy ended Neillsville's 54-game winning streak to advance to the Division 3 championship game. 

East Troy outscored Neillsville 21-8 in the third quarter and went on win 68-56. 

The Warriors led the Trojans 32-28 at halftime. East Troy was 47% from the field and made 5 of 12 threes. Neillsville shot 44% and went 14 for 17 from the free throw line. 

Neillsville junior Jenny Lindner led all scores with 22 points at the break. She connected on both three-point attempts and went 12 for 13 from the foul line. 

East Troy senior Rachel Atchison led the Trojans with 12 points on four made threes at intermission.

There were 11 lead changes and the game was tied 4 times.

East Troy finished 47% from the field including 11 of 24 on threes. Neillsville shot 37% for the game and connected on only 5 of their 25 three-point attempts. 

Senior Breanna Gaspervich led the Trojans with 25 points and 5 steals while making 4 of 8 threes. Atchison added 19 points and 3 steals while connecting on 6 of 12 triples. 

Lindner finished with a game-high 26 points and finished with 5 steals for the Warriors.

Neillsville suffered its first loss since losing to Altoona in a Division 3 sectional semi-final in 2011.

East Troy is looking for their first WIAA state girls basketball championship when they face Kewaunee on Saturday.

Note:  Attendance for the morning D3 session was 5,193.
