The University of Wisconsin was recently named "Offensive Lineman U" by 247Sports.com, but perhaps the state's high schools should collectively be named "Offensive Lineman High".

When former Big Foot star Travis Frederick of the University of Wisconsin was selected with the 31st pick in the First Round of the NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys Thursday night, it marked the third straight year a former high school lineman from the Dairy State was taken in the First Round.

Two years ago it was Outland Trophy winning Gabe Carimi of Monona Grove by the Chicago Bears, while former Wisconsin Lutheran standout Kevin Zeitler was picked in the First Round by the Cincinnati Bengals last season.

Frederick was a WFCA All-State selection on the offensive line as a junior and senior at Big Foot High School, also earning All-State recognition on defensive lineman as a senior when he helped the Chieftains to a Division 4 runner-up finish.

Since 2000, five players have been taken in Round 1 as Chris McIntosh of Pewaukee and Joe Thomas of Brookfield Central were also First Rounders.

The state's proud offensive line tradition goes back even further however, to players like Paul Gruber, Mike Webster, Joe Panos, Jeff Dellenbach, Mark Tauscher, Ben Johnson, Al Johnson, and many more.
