Athlete of the Week Nominees, June 3-9
Below are the nominees for the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for the week of June 3rd through June 9th. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word.
Alex Robson, Westby baseball, finished with the game-winning single in the bottom of the 9th inning to propel the Norsemen past 3rd ranked Parkview 5-4 and advance to the Division 3 state tournament.
Matt Tennessen, Hartford baseball, went 3-for-4 with a home run and 6 RBI's in a 23-13 win over Milwaukee Reagan to advance to the Division 1 state tournament.
Sarah Fonk, Westosha Central softball, struck out 9 and also collected an RBI at the plate to help the Falcons win the Division 1 state title with a 12-1 win against Kenosha Bradford.
Molly O'Connell, New London softball, hit a walk-off 2-RBI double to lead the Bulldogs to the Division 2 state championship with a 2-1 win over Baldwin-Woodville.
Beth Wood, Mineral Point softball, allowed only 1 earned run, struck out 3 while also going 3-for-4 at the plate to help the Pointers to the Division 3 state title with a 7-2 victory over Kenosha St. Joseph.
