Wisconsin Varsity Invitational

The Center Court Sports Complex in Waukesha is the site of the Wisconsin Varsity Invitational sponsored by Wisconsin Impact. The list includes a number of the states top programs, all but three of 32 teams are from Division 1 and 2, there is one D3 team along with a pair of D4 squads. The event will take place on Saturday, June 29th and Sunday, June 30th.

Three teams that made the state tournament will be there, they include Division 2 champion Notre Dame, D2 runner-up New Berlin Eisenhower and Division 4 qualifier The Prairie School.

The 32-team field combined for 597 wins against only 212 losses, for an average of 18.65 wins per team. Sixteen of the teams reached at least 20 wins in 2012-13.

The tournament is set up bracket-style, with every team guaranteed five games. Teams were divided into regions to balance teams competitively and geographically. No two teams from the same conference are in the same region. Also, all first round games feature a team from the Milwaukee metro area versus a team from outside the city.

Action starts on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and continues through Sunday, with the championship game scheduled at 3:30 p.m.

The Center Court Sports Complex features five courts with plenty of seating and is located at 815 Northview Road in Waukesha.

Six Rivers East-West All-Star Classic

The 8th Annual Six Rivers East-West All-Star Classic will take place in Belmont on June 28, 2013. The event, which originated with an idea from long-time Black Hawk athletic director and boys basketball coach Jerry Mortimer, raises money for American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Over the course of its existence, the event has raised nearly $10,000 for the cause.

The event involves a girls game that tips off at 6:00 pm and a boys game that follows at approximately 8:00 pm. Teams consist of girls and boys who graduated from high school in May and have therefore concluded their high school careers. Belmont’s air-conditioned facility provides a comfortable spectator experience.

Admission consists of a free-will offering at the door.
