WisSports.net Week 1 Player of the Week Nominees:

Jesse Collins, Delavan-Darien -- Collins started several games at quarterback for the Comets last year but didn't post any numbers that suggested what he would do in the season-opening 70-52 win over East Troy on Friday. In a wild and crazy shootout that is the second-highest scoring game in state history, he completed 6 of 18 passes for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns. He did more damage on the ground though, rushing 20 times for 219 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Sean McGuire, Franklin -- McGuire is a three-year starter for the Sabers and the top-ranked senior quarterback in the state by WSN. He more than proved he deserved that designation as Franklin claimed a 44-16 win over Sussex Hamilton in a non-conference game Thursday night. McGuire completed 20 of 29 passes for 330 yards and 2 touchdowns, while rushing for 31 yards and 2 scores as well.

Josh Ringelberg, Greendale -- Ringelberg showed great promise last season and enters 2013 as one of the top players in the Class of 2015. In a 51-33 non-conference victory over Cedarburg on Thursday he attempted just 17 passes, completing 10, but threw for 251 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also added 33 yards and a score on the ground.

Jacob Schmidt, Sheboygan North -- It was technically a non-conference game, but Sheboygan North's 29-24 win over Pulaski on Friday was impressive nonetheless. North hasn't made the playoffs since 2006 while Pulaski was expected to compete near the top of the league despite the departure of head coach Jed Kennedy. While he battled 3 interceptions, Schmidt stayed at it and ended up completing 22 of 44 passes for 390 yards and 4 touchdowns as the team relied almost solely on the passing game.

Robert Wettstein, Aquinas -- Wettstein's role figured to increase following the graduation of MVC Player of the Year Michael Conway, but not sure many saw this kind of production in Week 1. In a 33-14 win over Prairie du Chien, Wettstein ran for 386 yards on 41 carries, scoring 4 times.
