WisSports.net Week 1 Team of the Week Nominees:

Adams-Friendship -- Prior to last week, the Green Devils had not won a game since September 24th, 2010 when they shocked eventual league champion Nekoosa 13-10. That 22-game losing streak came to an end Friday with a 42-30 victory over Weyauwega-Fremont. Quarterback Mario Chavez threw for more than 300 yards with 2 touchdowns while adding 2 more on the ground. Freshman Joe Duty also had a nice game, returning a kickoff and interception for touchdowns.

Madison Edgewood -- The Crusaders jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter then answered each Waunakee comeback attempt to knock off the Warriors 41-35. It was the second straight loss for Waunakee after they saw their 48-game winning streak snapped in last year's D2 title game loss to Homestead, and the first regular season loss for the Warriors since a 15-10 defeat at the hands of Reesdburg in October of 2009. Senior quarterback Bobby Dunn showed incredible poise in the pocket, completing 18 of 26 passes for 345 yards and 4 touchdowns as he consistently found receivers open deep in the Warriors secondary.

Somerset -- The Spartans are coming off a Division 4 championship but faced heavy graduation losses across the board, especially in the backfield. Against a strong Bloomer squad they've now defeated five times in the last three years, they held on for a 22-14 overtime victory to open the season. Max Praschak carried the ball 26 times for 104 yards, 2 touchdowns, and a two-point conversion for the Spartans.

Waukesha West -- The 2010 Division 1 state champions finished tied for fourth in the Classic Eight last year but opened the 2013 non-conference season with an impressive victory. Behind 188 rushing yards from Elijah Fort, the Wolverines knocked off B'East 23-7.

Wausau West -- The Warriors missed the postseason last year, going just 2-5 in league play. Identified by several league coaches as a breakout candidate, West opened eyes right off the bat with a 10-9 nail-biter over Marshfield. In a defensive struggle, special teams was key for the Warriors. Drew Pearson booted a 26-yard field goal to put them up 10-3 in the first half, then blocked a potential game-tying extra point with just over two minutes left.
